No rumour, at least if you have documents from at least as recent as a grandparent who is listed on any VN document at being ethnic Chinese then it is a go. As far as ethnicity is concerned (but must be original VN documents.

We moved in together for 4 years before getting married in 2021 Jan. No kids, living in rental. We submitted PR application for me (under spouse's sponsorship) 2021 Apr, so we've been waiting 17 months without news (we both changed jobs during this time and updated ICA accordingly).

We only know after reading on this forum that we should wait 2 years after marriage before applying. Not sure if the fact that we've been together (same address) for 4 years would help show that this is not a convenience marriage.

My hope was on its peak recently when a friend (33M from Hong Kong, Chinese ethnicity) told me that he just got his PR approved last Thursday after 8 months of waiting (applied February 2022). He also mentioned that his colleague’s application (35M from Indonesia, Chinese ethnicity) got his PR approved also this October after 9 months of waiting (applied January 2022).

I’m still setting my expectation low, but not gonna lie, hearing this recent good news from someone you know makes you want to believe you also have a good chance (even if it’s not the case). Hoping for the best, expecting the worst!

So the grinch came early: I got my rejection notice. Not gonna lie, it's a little devastating especially after 9 months wait. Would have preferred to get the rejection 4 to 6 months in. Not that I'm expecting a favourable response given the longer wait, I know it's not the case, but this bad news could have waited after the festive season. Lol. Anyway, it is what it is.

Providing some refresher/points about speculations regarding the process:

(1) Longer wait does not imply approval.
Well this is a known fact, but leaving it here anyway.

(2) The wait time after upload button disappear and final status appear varies. There is no way to tell the status while playing around with the website (at least not the ICA links):

- Upload button disappeared 9 months and 2 days in, and got rejected status after another 4 days
- During the 4 days wait, clicking the enquire application status sometimes result to you being redirected to PR application page and there are few times when the link doesn't work at all
- There are 4 lines on my enquire status page but this has no bearing on the eventual result (as most already pointed out).


Looking at the bright side, I still get to work here in SG so there's that.

Yeah agree, ICA is indifferent so such. Haha. If I need to put a positive spin I would say the longer wait may suggest there's some slight consideration vs being rejected at the 4th month of waiting.

I'll apply again in 2 years time if I'm still in SG.

Longer wait may be just because of Covid. So, please don't infer anything based on the longer waiting time.
