That is too bad. Worth the try though. I suspect it depends on the officer assigned to the case, if it’s a newer person, they would probably be more apt to go by the book.
I think I took that course when I got my first ticket in the US… but not sure if it only applies to < 18 drivers, as was the case for me.
I doubt they have such a program here.
They definitely do, a close friend of mine was caught using her phone while driving by the traffic police and was issued a fine along with some demerit points, the difference was that she had the option to attend a course to have the points reduced. I’m not sure why this option wasn’t offered to her, perhaps it is not a thing for new drivers or maybe it depends on the offense. Either way, pretty unfortunate.

Probably not offered to new drivers. My son just got his licence. I'll remind him of this

About two weeks ago she was coming home from supper with friends at around four in the morning when she ran a red light. From what she described to me, she said that she had been going right at the speed limit but slammed on the brakes when she saw the light turn orange which caused the car to slow down but not come to a full stop as it was too late. Because of this, she ended up passing through the light when it was orange but it turned red before she made it to the other end of the intersection which is when the red light camera flashed.
I suspect she passed already on red. I've never seen any red light camera firing when somebody passed the light on orange. That's probably the reason why the appeal was rejected. As far as I know this is one of few traffic offenses in Singapore where the appeal never works.

My wife got caught on a red light camera with already some demerit points and they offered her the course to reduce the points. But she was not on the probation plate.

Good reminder to be extra vigilant around those pesky red light cameras… don’t play play
