Wow, most times I think of segregation and widespread racism as a thing of the distant, distant past, but this makes me realize that it really wasn't too long ago.
What I find odd is how segregated church congregations are in the US, and it’s self-segregated. There is no conspiracy, no real rationale, it just happens. The very few churches that have diverse congregations really have to work hard at it with a concerted effort.
TBH, I never really noticed it growing up, but thinking back, there really was zero racial diversity in our church, and it continues to be the case today when I go back for a visit. I would bet my wife and kids are the only diversity they see all year! They don’t get treated any different, if anything people are more friendly and curious.

I actually think this has a lot to do with cultural differences, in that different races worship differently. I've been to a "black" church before, and I was one of maybe three white people there. It was nothing like I never experienced at a "white" church before.
