This is something I think Singapore could be a little more transparent on. For example, it’s not difficult to spell out the minimum salary requirements by household size.

My brother went through this in the US. For example, in 2023 the US sets a minimum $24,650 for a household size of two. The US also gets “into your business” and demands a lot of personal evidence, consistent over time to prove you are in a genuine relationship. There are interviews both pre and post, individually and as a couple. Then you only get conditional status for two years and you have to clear a final hurdle to get permanent status.

The downside of the US system is it takes over a year to get the initial visa approved and costs well over US$1,000… but that leads directly to PR that is reasonably guaranteed, so pros and cons.
I agree, right now, there's so much speculation and everyone resorts to playing mind games.

Having a baby here without a long term pass is not possible. Next step will be try to get s pass for her. If that fails last choice will be move to other country. Good place to retire 😁
You might want to make concrete back up plans in case this doesn't work out then.

I applied sc before few years back but ICA said salary too low. My parents don’t want us to take sc. I am 41 and she is 39. I know her for 6 months before we got married
You must know how this looks from the ICA's perspective. It comes across as a sham marriage, as you didn't know each other for very long before marrying and unfortunately, she comes from a country that is notorious for having brides that can be bought. Plus, her age means that having babies may soon be out of the question which they probably won't appreciate.

I’m surprised they came out and said salary too low. Normally they are not so revealing.

Her age doesn’t score any points as a baby maker. Was she married before, have any kids?
Am I missing some thing Mal? I don't see how it would make a difference if she had any kids of her own.

Family size matters. Even if the kids stay in ‘nam… she is still their mother — it is bound to add financial burdens at the very least. And thinking longer term, are these kids eventually coming to Singapore one day? How well would they integrate? I think there is a lot to unpack.

I think another factor is OP himself wouldn't get his PR, if he applied now. SC is different, but I think PRs are neither here nor there. Sure OP would rather stay here than go back to Bangladesh. But you can see how he is being treated.

So people who think they have won some lottery by getting PR, remember your second generation could suffer by being neither here nor there.

Many years ago, they used to screen SC applications before submission and if some basic criteria was not met, they would right away advise not to apply.

Until they realized it was not as profitable as letting people apply?

Singapore does not make money with PR/SC applications. 100 dollar per applicant. You should compare this with the PR application cost in countries like Aus/NZ, etc.

From what I understand from my colleague who applied PR & SC the old fashioned way before online applications, you make appointment at ICA first. Then you bring your documents down. The staff at the counter then advise you whether you should go ahead with the application.

For her SC, I believe the counter officer told her to wait a little longer before applying. So wait she did and then she got her SC on first try.

Old fashioned way was probably a lot more labour intensive compared to… computer AI sifting for the initial step before being manually verified for the outcome step?

The ironic thing is we will never know how close or far away we are in the ranking. Imagine some people are applying year after year and even the computer must be laughing, given that the person probably has a "never to be given PR" check against their profile, yet the person is applying year after year, thinking they just missed it in the lottery this time. My sister went to Australia 6 years ago on a work visa and she got her PR in 4 years and then citizenship in another 2 years. Here I am in my 15 year still on an EP and mostly likely next renewal I will be given an S Pass ](*,)

I read an article about a Russian who was born here and still she didnt get PR, so based on that I think people here have been through far worse stuff than me, atleast I made some money and had a great time while I am here.

But curious, who is better off financially, you or your sister?

Very true. I thought you were suggesting that having kids of her own would somehow show her commitment to the country or paint her as a family woman.

I definitely don't think application fees is how the ICA makes its money.

Right! I feel like that barely covers the manpower costs and admin fees.
