Chinese superstitions - there are so many!
I like the one about lizards. If you grab one by the tail and it comes off off, the part that you pull off will jump in your ear and go to your brain and kill you.

What about the obvious one? Avoid the number '4' (associated with death and plain bad luck) and go with '8" (prosperity)?

My father-in-law always says, it is bad luck to have your age land on a 9, what I don't understand is that when he was 79, he would say i am 81. so I am scratching my head about the 2 year difference.

1) New Shoes - bite on the new pair of shoes first.. then the shoes will hurt when worn later
2) Not allowed to wash hair or cut nails on Fifth and fifteenth day of the chinese calendar. ???
3) Never to present a clock as a gift for someone's birthday
4) Never present a pair of shoes to a partner if you have yet to marry and intend to marry
5) When sweeping the floor at home.. start from the front door sweep a few times inwards first.. and continue to do the usual sweeping.
6) When walking in dark places or crossing dark paths with trees, say "excuse me" or ask permission to use the path..
alternatively, make noise with your bunch of keys so the "friends" are alerted of your arrival and they can make way for you
7) Make sure all your petty bills, PUB, telephone, lunch you owe your friends are paid before the new year.. otherwise, start your new year with debts will multiple future debts by at least 3 years
8) If the younger sibling wish to marry before the elder one, have a piece of new pants owned by the older sibling(s) (or a piece of material to be made into pants later) hung above the entrance of the house before the bride/bridegroom leaves the house. Otherwise the older siblings will have problem getting married
9) Chinese New Year - dont read newspapers or watch the news on the first day to avoid reading up or witnessing bad news at the start of the year. Brooms are to be hidden away
Couples celebrating the first CNY together will give away double red packets (one from the wife and one from the husband). First double happiness together shared in double.. double joy to return
