Hi

Moving to Singapore and really want to continue riding - but also want to buy a horse at some stage. Any advice on how easy it is to stable a horse in Singapore and how expensive it is? Also what riding schools are good for experienced riders? It seems you need membership in most of them..

The best horse riding place in Asia is Riders Lodge in Johor. Only 45 minutes from Singapore and great horses and qualified instructors.

Hi. I just moved to Singapore. I'm wondering if there's any place where I can do riding/ play polo WITHOUT membership and provide horses/ polo ponies?

The Spore Polo Club at Thomson Rd. The other riding place is at Sentosa Island for fun ride only, not for training. Check with Spore Sports Council or the Zoo for help.

Hi polo lover, I love polo as well. In fact I used to work as a polo groom in Oz and the UK and have played a bit.

i have just signed up for lessons at the Turf Club riding school. I was out there on Monday and it's a pretty impressive set up. If you're interested I will post an update after I have my riding assessment next Tuesday.

on a side note, if any other horse lovers are keen to get together to meet new people or anyone rides at the turf club and would like to have a drink at the cafe there or somewhere else before or after lessons, let me know!!!

are Turf Club and Gallop Stable are the same? I thought they have ponies only? I also just moved to Singapore and I am searching for possibilities to keep on horseback riding. Went to Bukith Timah Saddle Club but the Membership Fees are exorbitant....

I have been riding here for the past 2 years & here's my feedback, my background is a dressage rider from Aus, having competed & left my horses back home while over here & wanted to continue to develop & improve while away.

For those who want to play polo, there is NO alternative to polo club & therefore you HAVE to take out membership in singapore. If you are experienced you will be able to get into the riding school much quicker than beginner/novices, polo club has more of a SJ focus & they do quite well in competitions & hold them regularly which is open to public & spectators for free.

BTSC has lovely grounds but has a high turnover of staff while I was there so lesson consistency wasn't there & weren't any school horses suitable for those wanting a schoolmaster (older types great for basics & beginners) but has space for private horses (personally I wouldn't put my horse there, unless you like dust & falling down rustic appeal!)

Gallop stables has the worst rep of all the horse places, they operate at pasir ris & turf city & is a private operation, aimed at kids, no qualified instructors & unsound ponies in a tiny arena, good for pony rides for tiny kids.

Singapore Turf Club Riding Centre is the newest riding school which opened in november & is the venue for the Youth Olympic games in August 2010. It is purely open to the public, no livery or membership fees so you pay & ride as you like. Just to clarify it is NOT affiliated in any way with gallop stables, they are completely different. STCRC is owned by the turf club & the aim is to make horse riding less of an elitist sport & get more locals involved.

I have ridden there since december & am so glad its open!! They currently only do flat work & only offer group lessons (but sometimes you end up being the only one so you pay group rate for a private!)

The staff & facilities are amazing, they have a huge indoor arena, I think there are some people from Polo club riding there as well as playing polo to improve flat, good variety of horses although most are small galloway & hacks only 2 ponies, anyway this is there website for more info

I had my riding assessment at the Turf Club riding Centre the other day. I was pretty impressed. Aussie instructor who sounded like she knew what she was talking about.

The horse i rode was large (16.2ish?) and reasonably well educated, nice and straight with some knowledge of laterals. A couple of bad habits though, just ones typical of schoolies such as being a little lazy/nappy.

Overall I was very happy, and have my first proper lesson on Thursday...

Could you post some feedback on your lesson at the Turf Club Riding Club? I have just moved to Singapore and I am looking to sign up to some riding lessons here. I looked into both The Polo Club and Bukit Timah Saddle Club but the membership fees are pretty steep. I am an experienced rider, having owned a horse for 10 years in the UK and I don't want to lose my riding while I'm here!!

I am waiting for my riding kit to be shipped out here at the moment, but hope to start riding come the end of March and would welcome your feedback on the standards at the Turf Club. Also keen to catch up for a coffee at the club - I haven't had much of a chance to socialize in my first couple of weeks here and I am keen to meet some like-minded people!

Is it possible to do cross country, in either the The Turf Club, BTSC or the Polo Club?
