I was toying with the same idea. I'll be relocating to Sing next year and was thinking about commuting by bike. I'll be working on the west side and figure I could get an apartment 3-5 km from work.

Barring that, how many of you walk/jog to work? The idea is to apply my commuting time to something productive as in keeping in shape.

P.S. I'm the type to sweat even in cool weather, but I could shower when I get to work, rather than before leaving.

Till now I wouldn't have cycled in to work but they have opened up the marina barrage, that bridge across the mouth of the kallang river. If you can make it to the east coast track then you will soon have a safe bike track commute all the way into the CBD via gardens by the bay. The end of the east coast connector is currently at Fort Rd but they will link this directly to the barrage in 2014. Till then this means that you have to loop around Tanjong Rhu to gardens by the bay but that is the only route that is traffic sharing. The Fort road underpass is dangerous as cars come straight at you toward the slip road to the ecp if there are no cars beside you /going in the same direction.

Hey Edroche, do you know when in 2014 they plan to open up the link from the barrage to the East Coast Park? That'll be great for me too (to avoiding cycling along T. Rhu / Fort Road during my weekend excursions).

Oh, and thanks for getting rid of the Jack Nicholson dog avatar - the current one looks much more benign.

Lol no problem

Only indication at this point is toward end of 2014

I hope they open it up earlier. The service road at the end of Fort Rd is now one way. Otherwise commuting for 3 or 4 months most weekdays to work is working out well. East coast is quiet around 8am. The new Marina Coastal Expressway has cut off access to the CBD if you are using the back roads behind gardens by the bay. Most people follow the gardens by the bay track, by the bank of the river and around by the claw.

The park connector from fort road to marina barrage is due to be open by end of March 2015.

In general I have not experienced any issues cycling to work in the east once you reach east coast park. Not so many people walking on the cycle lane in the morning although they did add additional humps some time back.

I did it daily for over a year until I moved to the motherland, now, it's impossible to cycle on the roads, due to potholes, mental motorcyclists and the risk of having your stuff nicked as you ride. Also, there are too many highways...

I used to dislike the showering at work thing too to be honest.
