What would the average salary be for an IT Degree holder who is also PMP certified?

A PMP needs 2.5 years of relevant project management experience. Are you sure they can only make that little? That's a ridiculous salary for a PMP in my view.

Which is better having a ridiculous low paying job and food on the table compare to no job and biting your toes for lunch ?

S$2500 is the starting salary for a fresh graduate.
You can ask for more for your PMP cert, if you find an employer who values it.
In addition, if your experience (not mentioned in the first post) is applicable to the job, you could get more, too.
So with both together, you might go beyond the range I quoted, but not by a lot.

I am project manager with 12 years applicable experience in a sought-after niche skill - not PMP certified because I don"t like the system, but with more than enough references showing that I do know how to manage complex projects - and I gave up negotiations with a company last year because they wouldn't match my requested S$8000.

Depends where you are from, but typical median for an MNC for an expat is around $10K with 5+ years experience, Beppi, I'd suggest you should think about a move! Just my tuppence worth.

That's for sure, only coming from my own experience, in Germany you wouldn't get an employment pass if you underbid the local salaries which would have to be at least 2500-3000 Euros per month, which means a lot higher living standard than in Singapore counting the rental prices. I'm just trying to match the GDP per capita and count Singapore as a rich country, in that sense I think that salary would be really low.

Locals with 5 to 8 years of experience can certainly expect 8K per month... and if you are good, 10K or more. The best in an MNC will earn 20K per month or more.

In addition, EUR7-8k in Germany (which is what I could expect there) will give you the same after-tax income as S$8k here.
Then it boils down to a lifestyle choice which one you prefer.

Local Salary median incomes include ALL types of earners, not just IT or Financial. There are tons who are on the low end of the spectrum as well. I'm inclined to agree that 5~8 isn't unheard of by a long shot for locals with that experience.

I have read the salary surveys, and I know what people are paid in MNC's. If you are average you get paid average, and believe me, most people are average... the world of the 80 percenters. Good technical IT PM's can earn 8K per month with five years experience because good people are hard to find. Senior people who are really good can earn double that although the number of spots open are less.

I struggle against the unrealistic expectations of HR departments who want to know why I can't hire a 'star' on an 'extras' budget.
