Well, to be more precise, it's a Jack Rabbit. This is a type of hare that you can find in US. I remember seeing a lot in Colorado.
Eric, the hare you know -I guess back in Europe- is slightly different, especially the ears which are not so wide.

eric - Ha ha ha! Actually it's a "jackrabbit". We have them running wild in Nevada (where I last lived).
Arab street! AWESOME!!! Sounds like it's right up my alley. I think I'll probably come home with more than baskets, from the sound of it. It rings a bell.....I think someone had mentioned Arab Street to me, but I wasn't sure how to get there at the time, so I put it on my list of things to research. Again, the beautiful details. Thanks soooo much. I am *definitely* gonna go there w/in 1 week. (I may have to bring some extra hands to carry all the baskets
)

Well.... I know about jackrabbits now, you know about where to go for your baskets, it has been a fruitfull week so far

Australia gets these huge jackrabbits as well, no I'm not talking about kangaroos!
jinkel, I've never been to Arab Street, but have read somewhere that you should avoid the place on weekends, so try during the week. Must be very busy & crowded on weekends.

Teakwood it is....
Yesterday my wife and myself spent a lovely afternoon at Demsey Road area. First we went for a late lunch to Dempsey's hut, a great bpar / pub out in the open in the lovely surroundings of nature. Just of Holland Road, opposite the Botanic gardens is Dempsey Road. Go in, after 50m on the right is this fantastic bar. The service is superb, so friendly and fast. You sit in the midst of nature, they have a great food and drinks variety and reasonably priced (love the fish and chips, yummie!).
From there we went to the old military camp area behind it, you just follow Dempsey Road, at the junction to the right, another few hundred metres and you're there. Old Kampung Style surroundings in downtown Singapore, magnificent place. There is a lot of teakwood and antique and design furniture shops inside the kampung buildings, ranging from Burmese to Chinese and Indonesian aretefacts, furniture and accessories. And yes: Cheap rotan baskets in all sizes as well...
In between is a wine pub, where you can do great wine tasting.
Man, this place is fabulous!
Bought quite a few items there and had a great great afternoon!
Go for it, it's worth the effort!

I know the place quite well indeed. I used to be a regular.
But haven't been for a few weeks since I heard the management changed and it's not so nice anymore.
So, Eric, is it true? I guess this was not your first time there?
BTW I almost went there last night as well, finally had a BBQ with some friends. Would have been funny to meet there...

The wine pub was nice, but I love going to that Dempsey's hut. Been there a few times the last 2 weeks and it is one of my fav hang outs for a nice saturday afternoon. There's a bunch of kiwi's or ozzie's there as well, as they put on the big tv for the rugby fans. It has a nice mix of locals and expats and the service is really outstanding. First time I went there is about a year ago or so, no difference noticed form then 'til now.
Would have been nice to meet and have a hoegaarden or 2 CD...

I think about half of our funtiture has come from Demsey Rd over the years. I love Red House and the little dusty place next to it. Asia Passion and Pasardina, even Wicker 21 has great things.
Never have eaten there, but everyone loves Samy's curry and there is that new place where the flying club used to be -- Highwood?
Has anyone tried it?

Okay, now I'm really dying to get to Dempsey Road. And when I finally do acquire the baskets / furniture I've been looking for, I'm gonna go home, crack open the coldest largest beer I've got, put my feet up, and enjoy the fact that one more thing has been checked off "the list".
But getting back to the subject at hand (Dempsey Rd.)....someone also mentioned to me that they hold an organic market there. Does anyone know of this?
