Rather have a $3000/pm unit empty for 6 months, than negotiate and agree a $200/pm reduction on a 12 month let.
Pride before pragmatism.

A friend of mine likes the unit he is living with and really doesn't want to move out. Looks like landlord wants to try her chances. Nothing can be done. As I said I'm fortunate to have my TA renewal in more than a year ahead.
Or unfortunate... who knows what government comes up with by that time?

Funny, I'm moving out of my HDB and I casually asked the landlord's agent why she hadn't been bringing new tenants by. She informed me she wasn't going to work for the landlord anymore, as the landlord wanted to raise the rent again and she felt the landlord was too high over the market. I'm currently paying $2800 (And the agent even said that was too high! hah. I knew this, but didn't want to lose the diplo clause which I just used) and the landlord wants to go to $3200 also.
She said that it would take her 4-5 months to fill the unit and it wasn't worth that time to her. She agreed with our common philosophy to fill it at a reasonable rate with no downtime, and not have empty periods just to get a higher rent.
This is in Marine Parade. Old 3-room improved (utility rom), but relatively recently rehabbed and full sea view. Agent mentioned
condo rents are plummeting and
condos in the area in getting to about the same range.

Yes, Marine Parade 2.8 K for 3 room HDB looks a bit high, considering there is no MRT around.

It's pretty well connected by bus to most anywhere, and this is my bedroom and living room view which justifies some (but not all) of the cost:

Looks like you'll be able to go back to your old home pretty soon SMS. Just read they're going to overhaul the entire compound.

Again? They reno'd them just after I moved out in '99 as well. With rental up above 3K/mo I don't think I'll be going back out there.

There's a beaute of a villa opposite Marine parade CC. Well, it was a beaute anyway, until the owner gave it a new paint job. The color? Get this: disco-blue
