Boatrace, did you ever find a TV rental place here in Singapore or did you finally just opt to buy one. The only ones I ever found were high daily rental for commercial applications/events.

Just bought in the end ... although burning $1000+ on TVs which will have no real sell on value in two years did annoy me!

wine connection? took a liking to a Birds and Bees Sweet Malbec from there recently..

For $8 a pop, this will be the wine version of Thirsty (beer place in Liang Court). Definitely must plan a visit there.

i find more supermarket selling better wines, but still have not tried any. maybe i try this weekend

Any advice or recommendations for someone who's new to drinking wine?

Not too acidic or strong would be great. Typically more comfortable with whites than reds. Have never taken the time to find out more about the different types of wine.

I just found out 2 websites that made the best prices for wines!
For australian wines, you have http://www.vinomofo.com, but they only sell by case.
For High quality French Wines, I found http://www.wineandchill.sg that sell premium wines for the best prices in SG I believe, and they do same day delivery

I agree that http://www.wineandchill.sg is probably the best in SG for really good French wines. Really enjoyed the delivery and the wines themselves.

Also, found an interesting site the other day - https://wineronda.com.sg/. It is about natural wines from a highland winemaking region in the southern Spain. I purchased twice from them and had a discount code for 15% off which I have not used (I am not in SG now). PM me if you want me to share it.

Having flown into SG for a deserved Christmas break I'm once again staring at inflated wine prices in stores and wondering how to make the best of a tough situation.

For starters the most pleasant surprise has been the fact that Cheers currently has a great promo with 187ml bottles (so 4 small bottles = one big 750ml bottle) of Jacob's Creek wines. At $10.95 for two you're looking at $21.90 for the equivalent of a 750ml bottle. In my case this is even better because I can grab two small ones on the go with my better half after a meal at the food court for instance.

The only tough issue is, erm... finding a Cheers store nearby.

Another great wine deal happened to me recently at Giant. Sure, there are lots of different wines that are a few bucks off at present, but one deal really stuck out: Jacob's Creek Reserve (great Cab Sav from the Coonawara region). Down from $43.90... to $23.90. Funny thing is that they were placed at the bottom of the shelf so you really had to work hard to spot this deal. Of course it's up to everyone individually whether they'd rather drink a $25 bottle on special at $22 or a $44 wine at $24. The Reserve really is a tasty wine though (and quite potent too at 14.6%), and it makes the regular JC taste rather rough in comparison.

Also worth noting is that Giant at Suntec is probably the best-value bar in Singapore at present, because upstairs next to the wine section they actually have nice tables where you are allowed to drink your purchases (and they even provide proper glasses free of charge). Sure, there is no view of the river or marina, but you are actually drinking at supermarket prices with zero markup.
