Singapore Expats

I am a frequest visitor of this forum, and although most replies are useful, I find quite a bit of malice and bias and partisan attitude amongst people responding to queries.

An Indian or Pakistani queries are met with sarcasm, anger, snide comments, whereas similar questions from say a malaysian chinese, is always met with warm vibes.

Why bring in personal prejudices against a race?

Methinks you confuse honest truths with prejudice. You must learn the difference. Our answers are based on anecdotal evidence collected over a large space of time and quantity of posters. Along with that data is more data as to what we think MOM and the Gov't are thinking. Our answers are seldom what one wants to hear if you are on the Government's current pogrom list. By the same token, others have very positive prognosis because they ARE on the Government's "desirable" list. I'm assuming you have a chip on your shoulder and are probably not on the desirable list, hence your grouse. Granted, there are those here who do have some bias. All are human. You are free to take the good with the bad and either stay or go. Choice is yours. Our numbers say we're doing something right. If you are "opinionated" then that, too, means you have your prejudices, doesn't it.

It's nothing to do with race at all. If a poster gets others' backs up it much more re: the kind of question being asked, and the attitude of the person asking it.

So lets see, your second post; and just look at your opinionated attitude towards the forum. You aren't likely to make friends that way!

Well, am opinionated but will most certainly not hurt anyone, and make personal attacks on anyone.

As I said, I am a frequent but silent visitor of this forum.

I am fine with honest opinions, but there is a difference in opinions and replies with malices.

As ai said previously, the same question from two different races, have met with diametrically opposite replies.

People comment on intelligence, race, knowledge, understanding and much more.....

I once again reiterate, that I sincerely like this forum for all the replies, which help....but as I said my observation........and am entitled to mine....

Would be a better place than it already is, if the malice was cut out from posts.

Sadly, we don't do personality tests before allowing people to register. Anyway, that would also detract from the character of this board. Even our long time regulars don't always see eye to eye, but that is the nature of all forums. We are not clones. Thank dog for that, as it would be damn boring here if that were the case.

I have observed that a large majority of fellow Indians often approach the forum 1. without doing even a basic Google search and 2. tend to get argumentative or repetitive with their queries when they do not get the answer they had hoped for which can get quite annoying.

This does lead to forumers forming a generalized opinion about people from the subcontinent. (Am not saying this justifies malicious comments in any way.)

This forum is going to be no different to the world in general, you are going to get some helpful replies, and replies that rub people the wrong way. In fact you might expect much worse here considering it's an online anonymous forum (but with moderators around to chop off anything that crosses the line).

Maybe it will help if you put a specific example, or next time you come across something you think is indecent/unreasonable why don't you post a reply and challenge whoever wrote it ?

I have no intention to pin point any particular comment, and I agree the nature of repetitive questions....but as I said I would have reacted differently, and just wanted to point this nature of bias to the forum.

But then again as SMS correctly pointed out, no one is the clone of the other, and everyone is entitled to his views and comments.

This is getting very gay, a guy with 2 posts demanding we all justify ourselves.

Can we get back to a more useful and/or interesting set of topics maybe ?

As you have been a lurker, as you admitted to, then do you consider it bias when one of their own lambastes them? Frankly, some of the most condemning of the regulars often comes from their own countrymen who hate seeing the "new breed" giving a whole nationality a bad name. Open forums often contain a wide assortment of personalities. That's what makes them so valuable, as you often get the truth, as much as you might not want it to be the answer you were hoping for.

One factor you need to factor in is that some posters (such as myself) see little value in PR and actually anti-value for some posters. I am not an advocate of people applying for PR unless they really intend to make a family in Singapore and become SC.

what she said! There are a lot of people from the subcontinent who won't do that basic research on anything and expect this forum to answer all their queries from start to finish. This isn't a help desk it's a forum!

So I see the forum thinks it to be just in abusing and hitting below the belt, even though people ask silly questions...

Then maybe I am the odd one out, in expecting a basic sense of respect for others, however stupid question maybe asked.

I take back my comments then....as I am an outlier anyways.
