Singapore Expats

I am currently employed in Singapore. I have an EP pass, which is valid till 2016. I wish to go traveling later in the year.

I plan to hand my notice in, towards middle of Sept, I have a one month notice period, so I will be unemployed mid Oct. I know that a social pass will be given to me once my EP is cancelled. So i can stay in Singapore for 30 days. There is the option to extend for 90 days via PR, or citizen, but not interested in this - seen this on the website.

What i want to know is, once the 30 days is up on the social pass, can i say leave Singapore, go to JB / KL / nearby for the day, then come back on a tourist visa (90 days on my passport), or do i need to be out of the country longer, before i can come back as a tourist? I'm not interested in working in Singapore. My wife will be working till Nov end when her assignment ends, then we both plan to travel around the region before heading back. I have a UK passport & I am a British Citizen.

Any thoughts from those in the know?

Guidance on this type of thing is hazy because ICA will give you what ICA wants (or doesn't want) to give you when you come back from JB. In general as a British citizen you should get 90 days for your SVP, and will be treated more favorably than many others. However, two rules of thumb come to mind that could still impact you depending on ICA when you come back:

1) For every three months in SG on an SVP, you should be out for six months.
2) You should be out of the country for five days on your cross border hops.

These are anecdotal based on experience of those I know and forum posts here, and generally the affected people were from 'regional neighboring countries' which wouldn't be treated as nicely as a British citizen.

That all said, why not apply for a dependent's pass off your wife's EP?

Applying for a dependent is an option. But what is the guidance thereafter? See we plan to go traveling to one destination for 1 month, then come back to SG for a few days, then move onto somewhere else for a few weeks, then maybe come back to SG for a few days before seeing a few other places, then maybe 1 week stint in SG before flying back to the UK for good. Can we still be safe with the 90 day SVP every time we come back - considering we only want to spend a few days at a time in SG once our EP / SPass expires.

If you aren't planning any long term stays afterwards, don't worry about the 90 day visa thing. A bog standard 30 day visa should be more than sufficient. Unless, what your are saying isn't what you are really planning.......

Nope. Not planning long term stay at all - once EP / SPass expires. Just wish to come back to Singapore a few days at a time, much like a hub, to see friends here, before we travel elsewhere in the APAC region. Plan to do this a few times, but wouldn't actually stay in Singapore more than 7 days at a time. So I'm assuming on what you say it should be ok?

Go play golf at Batam, or spend a weekend at Bintan. As a Brit, I don't think you'll have an issue with a 30 day pass upon return.

If you do not maximize the 30 day visas , I think you will be ok coming and going a few times.
