Singapore Expats

Been googling all morning to find out if I need to apply for a visa for our Indonesian maid BEFORE entering Thailand or if she can get a visa on arrival. So far I have found several websites saying I need to apply first and other websites saying she can get it on arrival. Thailand's Embassy's website does not clarify it either. Before I call them up, I just wanted to hear if anyone here knows for sure....?

That's the UK embassy, but the page is clearly laid out, and the rules won't alter between embassy locations.

Th Gov continues to have an impressive mess on their web sites and even if you find an up to date info it is not that clear.

An Indonesian citizen does not need visa at all if she travels as a tourist.

All Thai Government website are notoriously hard to figure out... there I said it. So are their embassies by the way! Recently we had to apply for a Thai Birth certificate for our newborn daughter. It said we needed to bring our marriage certificate, which we did. We were married in Switzerland so the certificate is in 4 languages. Besides the 4 languages, the marriage certificate was legalized by the Thai Embassy in Bern in Switzerland - stamp and all. THAT wasn't good enough for the Thai Embassy in Singapore however, who demanded that it was legalized again (in Singapore). We fought them hard and it took us a week but at the end they accepted it.... Bureaucracy in the highest order!

She can get it on arrival. We took our Indonesian helper with us to Phuket last September, no issues.

If not for this, do you think Singapore would let so many of its neighbors in with SVP on arrival?

With exception to Myanmar, yes all citizens of other ASEAN countries can travel visa-free to other member countries.

Totally correct, a mate of mine recently made this mistake when taking his family and Myanmar helper on holiday to Phuket. The Helper was refused entry and put on next flight back to Singapore.

You're right. Some of my friends made that mistake too.

It is either visa-on-arrival (with a letter of invitation) or apply via visa agents.

The only countries in exception are Vietnam, Philippines and Indonesia (visa-free in Myanmar). The reciprocity applies for Burmese themselves as well, travelling to these three countries.
