Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 'Shot Down In Ukraine...

A Malaysia Airlines passenger jet is reported to have been shot down near the Russia - Ukraine border.
Initial reports from Interfax news agency say the Boeing 777 was flying at an altitude of 32,000ft.
Sources say 280 passengers and 15 crew members were onboard the flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.

Wow... I just saw this somewhere else and initially thought it was a really poor-taste Onion/spoof article.
Terrible that it is not. There is going to be hell to pay between Ukraine/Russia/Separatists and the rest of the world...

Ukraine is also saying that Russia military shot down one of their fighter jets just the day before...

Within last few days two Ukrainian planes were shot down in this part of Ukraine (remaining under control of the pro-Russian separatists). The 1st plane were shot down by the separatist (they admitted it) and the 2nd one (the fighter jet) by the Russians.
The access to the Malaysian plane wreckage is already blocked by the separatists and they announced their intention to pass the remains to the Russians (for investigation).
It's not hard to imagine where will this lead to and I am surprised no seeing yet some flying propaganda claiming the Ukrainians shot it down to push the blame to the Russians.

Its hardly their fault if someone decides to shoot down one of their planes is it?
This is the main route, so assuming the quickest, between Western Europe and South East Asia.
A route change to avoid this area is probably being worked on now.

but a huge PR damage, as i see in some Facebook posts, a lot of arm chair experts have blamed MH for flying over war zones, bad pilots, saving money and risking lives etc etc.
and a lot are insisting no missile can reach 30,000 feet ... go figure ....
the U2 was downed by a missile in 70s, and the U2 was flying higher ....

Sad to hear about the Malaysia plane. I'm also bracing myself for people over-reacting and blaming the airline considering any plane could have been shot down by flying through a conflict zone. The responsibility lies with those who did not close out an area where ground-to-air missile batteries are operating constantly. Planes did not fly over the Balkans in the early 90's and there was a good reason for that.

1. It wasn't over warzone. The aircraft was flying outside the border of Ukraine. That route was an open route so you cannot say that the pilots "deliberately flout safety procedures to save fuel."
2. It was hit by ground-to-air Buk missile, a military weapon.
3. Whether it was an accident or intentional, someone will pay for it.
This was really unacceptable. With most of the casualties from The Netherlands, EU will be force the hand of UN to do something. With many nations added into the list of casualties from Ukraine-Russia crisis, will this lead to another WW?
This is really effed up.

Very tragic incident..
5 civilian planes were shot down in the last 40 years by sovereign governments and rebels. Note the last on this list

Reading a BBC update from through the night Singapore Airlines flight was next one through on the same flight path ..... Followed by Emirates , Ehtihad and Kazakh Airways ....
There but for the grace of god and all that.

very tragic news indeed, feel really sorry for the innocent people on that plane who were killed for no fault of theirs.
