is it as scary as it seems?

Absolutely.

Only if you are Chinese or have an extreme aversion to an ash filled home (even if you close yer winders and turn on the aircon, it finds it's way in. More pervasive than the forest burning haze we should be getting pretty soon). But the Majority of the population don't worry about all the "offerings" being burned EVERYWHERE!

Yes, because people who believe in ghosts won't shut up about it. I still shiver whenever I remember them going on and on and on about ghosts, how unlucky things are and all that superstitious stuff.

Depending on yer partner, a good bump in the night is okay.

I remember a lunch with a coworker, a rather 'senior' person I'd assume was intelligent to be where she was. Going on about the ghost in her father's offce (he was some Malaysian gov official), and how it was the previous office holder's ghost. Just the way she kept going on so matter of factly about it shocked me. I wasn't sure when I should just stop her and say "Ok, so are you just f#cking with us or what?"

Just watch out for any creepy men (or women; we mustn't discriminate); so just lock your door and secure your windows.

You eat later a lot of mooncakes and you are saved.

haha... i was told recently it is inauspicious to buy mooncakes during the lunar 7th month. superstition i reckon

No more scarey that living in a place with 'bad' fung shwei, or other similar made up superstitious clap-trap.

Got to love the article's sub-headline, 'Taboos to Follow:' .... er, but I thought something taboo, was something to avoid, not follow

You wouldn't believe the amount of superstition these people have. Inauspicious to do this, auspicious to do that...

Do not make negative comments or crack jokes about offering items in the streets...

- Well, that's you lot done for then.

Avoid spitting and blowing your nose in the street or at any tree/plant.

- But apparently this behaviour is perfectly acceptable at other times of the year.
