Singapore Expats

Looking for a store with some variety.

Here I mostly see that overpriced Moleskin brand and cheesy Filofax.

Any suggestions?

What exactly are you looking for? I find some of the shops selling stationery and the like for school kids and girly stuff.

I have observed that most of the stores in Singapore are stationary.

I've found most stationary stores anywhere are priced like Moleskin and comparable. I think you're stuck between whatever you can buy at Popular and one of those Moleskin hipster shops.

There is also a large (better than Popular) office supply store in Funan. Second or third floor, near the back.

I'm looking for 2015 diaries or planners. Was spoiled for choice in Japan, where they have many varieties of configurations, sizes, and quality.

Have not been able to find much here, though I suspect there are places for this. The Evergreens, MPHs and the like don't carry much.

zzm - that place in Funan is my go-to place, but they also don't have much; will get up to Popular at Bras Brasah Complex this weekend, have not been to Kinokuniya or Takashimaya yet but those are probably the best places.

Ditto to all suggestions. Artfriend is perfect if you need decently-priced art supplies for handicraft and it also has signature pens, wax seal sets and notebooks. Popular is more to office supplies. Typo and Paper Market have pretty stuff but overpriced. I often find stuff in Typo and Paper Market cheaper in Artfriend, plus more variety.

I know exactly what you mean by that statement! I found a shop in HK that sold those and bought everything I needed last year.
you can get them in takashimaya , but they are on average 40% more expensive here.

Here are my findings:

Robinsons: They said they have a section for this, couldn't find it

Tokyu Hands: Very few choices but mostly with silly faux and misguidedly pretentious foreign language phrases on the covers

Moleskin: These are everywhere, some acceptable choices, I find them unnecessarily overpriced and heavy, plus lacking in features

Takashimaya: Very few choices, and of the good formats, ugly (pink, puke green, etc. ) colors

Kinokuya: Very few choices, but about the only worthwhile ones I could find, but I didn't buy anything

Muji: Unlike Japan where they have good variety and cost, nothing here

Popular: Didn't make it there yet

Funan: Didn't make it there yet

Art: Didn't make it there yet, saw it from outside, didn't look to have anything

Times bookstores (Centrepoint) and Kinokunaya (Orchard) both have a wide range of diaries and planners.

Where is the Tokyu Hands in Singapore? Is it as big as the one in Shibuya?

Jurong West (Westgate) and ... drum-roll ... Orchard Central, the newish mall opp. Centrepoint.

The latter just opened 20/11/14, so I'll have to check it out.

What is the ranking of Japanese supermarkets?

1) Isetan
2) ?
3) ?

There's Tokyo Hands, Meidi-Ya....


Edit to add: I can see a 'Where to shop' topic coming on that could be split into a FAQ post. Complicated in that one might shop at say Isetan, NTUC and wet markets. And that's just for food...
