It appears our online colleagues at "The Voice of Singaporeans for Singaporeans" have a new focal point for their wrath!

The mention "closing the roads" , I am pretty sure that its the top end of Circular Road whcih must be about 200m max ..... I am sure the road is closed on weekends anyway.

Didn't seem to be much of a problem, the road was closed and people were drinking everywhere. And yes that road is closed on weekends anyway. Didn't see a parade though.

@Barnsley - I've read the article you posted and I doubt it was to intentionally stir sh%#.
The key issue is certain privileges (which are quite similar in both cases) were afforded to an expatriate demographic, but denied to an indigenous one.

@JR8 - is the xenophobia here that pervasive? I've lived through Europe, Australia & Asia and I would not say that any of them are better than here.

The Thaipusam guys should have gotten their drums for the st. Patricks day event and joined in.
I'm not quite sure how that would have ended up.

Singapore is Asian.
St. Patrick's day is Irish.
They really have no right to close even 200m of road, even a metre of road in Singapore.
It is not a National Holiday anyway. I know it's important for a lot of Irish and Americans, but Lee Kuan Yew and a select group of his officials decided all the holidays, organised with religious leaders and the population of Singapore to create a balance for all religions. St. Patricks day can be celebrated privately, in restaurants, bars, etc., but not in publicly.

To be fair that article isn't targeting the expats or any group for that matter, its targeting someone who said something along the lines of... well never mind.

Actually the part of the road that was closed , is closed every weekend , so there were no exceptions made
