Singapore Expats

Hi all,

I was recently internally transferred to Singapore with my employer, a Big 4 accounting firm.

I have only been in Singapore with them for 2 months, however I am not happy with the role and have accepted an offer from a large bank.

I am concerned that my employment pass application may be rejected as MoM apparently do not like job hoppers. Is this a risk I should be concerned about?

By way of background, the pay in the new role is substantially higher (9k per month v. 6k). Not sure if this matters.

I am a 27 year old from Australia, holding two bachelor degrees, as well as a masters.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated - I am quite an anxious person!

Just to add (in case relevant), I am married to a Singapore local, who is University-educated (Australia) and employed in Singapore.

Before you resign from your current job, your prospective employer can apply a new pass for you and only then will you know if it will be rejected or approved. If the pass is rejected, you can continue with your current employment but there is a risk that the HR of your current employer will see your new pass application when they check your status online. What they will do with this info is anyone's guess. According to forumers here, there are anecdotal evidence of EPs being rejected due to previous short duration of employment under EP.

Your situation would be better if you are on an LTVP or LTVP+ for which you may be eligible.

Thanks. I will not be resigning prior to the EP approved, but I am just praying that it is! Hopefully MoM don't focus too much on the brief employment period in SG.

I reckon, in this scenario, the OP shouldn't have too much of a problem if he is currently holding an EP and he's leaving for a job that is paying him 50% more to start. That's a whopping increase and would probably be approved. It' not like he is jumping jobs for 500 dollars or 50 minutes closer to home. Good luck.

Thanks mate. Fingers crossed that MoM see things in the same light.

The reason for switching jobs is actually the role itself, rather than the money. However, I agree that the significant increase in pay might be helpful in swaying MoM

I think your education and job that you are applying put you in a very good position for your EP to be approved. You can always go to MOM site to try out their self assessment tool to see how you stand. http://beta.mom.gov.sg/en/passes-and-pe ... ligibility

I'm not sure what you are on, but it would behoove you to read the threads rather than just agreeing and repeating others. Why would he need to go the the MOM site to check out the SAT? He is already on an EP so it's a foregone conclusion that he is academically suitable. d'oh. Please get up to speed and read the threads for content.

The SAT also helps with requirement on past employment in Singapore as well as any pending applications. No harm giving it a try. If ultimately the SAT fails you can trial and error and see if the pending employment pass actually impedes your application from getting approved.

True, but only if you've been on your current pass for a year or more. The OP has only just arrived and been on his current EP for 2 months. Like I said, read for content.

In my experience you will not have an issue. I was forced to change jobs about 8 months after I relocated to Singapore. Slightly longer than 2 months, but still not very long to be in a job. My EP was approved in 3 days & I don't have the same educational background as you do.

You should know by now as it takes about 5 days for the process these days if they submitted online.

Hi, just wondering , did you get a new pass? Any issue? Did your new employer have to explain why they gave you that increase? Appreciate if anybody can give input on that. Also have a job offer with a significantly higher salary offer.Thanks!
