Hello folks,

I came to this wonderful country in December 2015, have been working with the same company since.
I have a BS in computer Science . I am from India.
I work in the tech industry.

I love this country and know there is a lot of potential for the tech scene in the near future. The top computer scientists / engineers are a scarce here as I also manage hiring engineers for my team and have been head hunting for my team for the past few months (Things don't look good here).

I intend to settle down here, maybe even starting my own startup. I am young, have had an accelerated career growth, and manage a team based out of Singapore and manila, on an EP earning 70k + . I am 24,

Since I have not even completed a year here, but have 6+ months salary slips which are the requirements.

What do you folks think / suggest should I apply now, or wait for paying this year's tax returns.

Too early for your application. Without even spending a year here, you have said that you intend to settle down here, which is too early too. Why don't you spend 3-4 years and then apply for PR? What is the rush if you have real intentions to settle down here?

There are lot of managers in Singapore and not scarce. What is in need is the people who do the work and technical stuff.

Apply only if rejection doesn't bother you. If does bother you, I'd suggest you wait until you have at least 3 tax returns filed. or if you are on a 24 month EP, wait until you have renewed your EP one time.

Too early for your application. Without even spending a year here, you have said that you intend to settle down here, which is too early too. Why don't you spend 3-4 years and then apply for PR? What is the rush if you have real intentions to settle down here?

There are a lot of managers in Singapore and not scarce. What is in need is the people who do the work and technical stuff.

Well, there is love at first sight. So why not settle down early ?

Also, I am an engineer... Just that I manage my team too. My designation is not a manager but engineer.

No. Provided you don't submit every year.

Although, having said that, we did have one recently who claimed he'd been rejected 6 times, but have to admit, he was on a WP the first time making, I think, only 600 or 900/mo. He has progressed up the ladder from WP to S to EP and from labourer to Project Manager now. So his abilities shown through via steady climb with the same employers. But his case is definitely the exception and not the rule.

In your case, one would have to wonder why such a hurry unless it was to buy and flip property or trying to get a stepping stone to Aus, Canada, the UK or the US.

Indians are very good at overstating everything. Especially when it comes to CV and PR application etc. Not saying that you are overstating, but every Indian who is applying will say exactly the same thing that you said. I wonder how the evaluators of your PR application will be able to select you. First of all I think there is an automated process and automatic rejection after 6 months unless it satisfies they special criteria. Whatever you said about you is qualitative. But quantitatively I doubt if you will pass their automated criteria. Good luck anyways!

Thanks, everyone. No, I am not overstating anything, this was just a truthful casual discussion...

The property is still very far off and distant I guess. Also not sure why someone would want to settle in the US or the UK when you have Singapore (Let's ignore the wages for a while ) . Person of my age isn't looking to settle down soon.

Just getting a perspective, and one important takeaway of this discussion is that every other Indian out there is like me

Singapore doesn't care if you 'love' her or if you think she is 'wonderful'... what Singapore cares about is what you can do for Singapore. Read the latest demographic report from the statistics department (in between the lines) and work out where you can fit. There is a link somewhere on the forum, if you're as smart as you say you are (which I highly doubt), this will be an easy task.

If this is true, you need to prove that the same lasts after 2-3 years and not infatuation. Only then it is considered valid. ICA will see it the same way.

I don't know about US. But I find enough reasons to leave Singapore and work in Europe. Most important reasons: Work life balance is awesome in Europe. People work 36 hrs a week and it is normal to leave office on time or even before time. In Singapore most places staying late is considered necessary. Another reason Asian managers are assholes more often than not. Europeans are much better people to work with.

These 2 reasons trump whatever reason you find Singapore attractive to live.

Hello Folks,

I am gonna pick this up again after a year and didn't feel the need to create a new topic. I have a new question.

Does the company also affect your PR chances,

I have about 2 offers in the range of ~90K - 95K One from an MNC world leader and other from a Singaporean company (As Singaporean it can get).

If I join the Singaporean company do I have an advantage in my PR application.
FYI: I still haven't applied my PR, I did have my 2 years EP renewed for 3 more years. I ask this since I wish to stay here long term and it would be helpful for me to choose the right company, if it really matters.
