I am an amateur player who plays for pleasure, dabbling in variation of styles from classical to pop. I have a budget constraint and I’m wondering if I should just trying out a bunch of used cheap pianos and pick the one that I love the touch and sound the most. At the same time, I am aiming for a permanent purchase so that I don’t need to upgrade again down the road. Advice on where should I start would be much appreciated.

Unless you are planning to keep the room that the piano is in air conditioned 24 hours per day, I'd go with the cheap ones. Pianos and Singapore climate are not well suited for one another.

My wife bought a second hand upright Yamaha (I think the UP4?) 5 years ago from a recommended dealer - she's very happy with it.

Recently I got a used piano from a store at Tagore Lane, called Premium Piano Selection. The premise may not locate in an accessible area but it was highly recommended by a friend of mine, so I dropped by their store. I explained to sale person on my financial worries and was hoping there is economic resolution to my need. Unexpectedly, I’m quite impressed on their professionalism by explaining to me the pro and cons of almost all pianos in their store. Other than introduced the arrival of their new batch of pianos, they offered a discount $1,000 for all their existing stock units. Of course, I could not resist the latter offer and finally I chose a real good deal without having to compromise on the quality. I strongly suggest you start your navigation by visiting their store.
