Is following statement correct?

"As an EP holder, you have to obtain/hold Singapore driving license to drive in S’pore".

Note I have clean UK driving license.

note context: Hire car

No direct experience with hire companies.

The licence requirement is to convert within 1 year of arrival. Logically, as it's legal to drive in Sg in that first year, hire companies shouldn't have a restriction.

But this is Sg, pay to check with the companies concerned.

If you are a resident (EP, PR, LTVP etc) your original driving license is valid for driving locally for 1y. Later you can not use it so I don't think you will manage to rent a car. Driving without a valid DL would likely void the insurance.

Facts (say):
End EP 31 Aug 2017.
Leave Sg 12 Sept. return on Tourist visa 20th Sept.

21 Sept hire a car (with passport, Tourist visa credentials, for 3 months).

Is this workable in the short term?

(I am in fact starting new job 26 sept).

It seems ok, but I would still give a call to the traffic police just to be sure.
