I have an Indian passport and currently lives in SG. It is valid until 2019 October. But the blank pages are not sufficient enough to meet my summer travel plans. I need to go for an early renewal. In BLS website it is mentioned, "If passport validity is more than one year, original company letter is required stating the reason for early renewal has to be mentioned".

What does it mean? As far as I know, the employer does not issue any letter for an early renewal of its employees' passports.

You can renew your passport anytime if it has only few blank pages left ... I am not sure about the right threshold but you can go for it if there are only 3 or 4 (or less) complete blank pages left. For such renewal , you don't need to submit any letter.

Move back home.

Thanks for the information, luckycricket. Before going to BLS office I wanted to make sure that I don't need any additional document for the early renewal.
