Singapore Expats

Hi everyone,
My partner(SC) and I have been staying overseas and I have never worked in Singapore before. We are both working full time with decent salary and we have PR in Australia. I am a PRC myself. Just wondering how would ICA view my PR application. TIA.

Yea, I just applied not long ago but I have been reading lots of 'negative' comments about how difficult it is to get Singapore PR nowadays. We just wanted to apply in case we will go back and live in Singapore but I can also understand if ICA rejects my application since I have not yet contributed to the economy. Thanks for your reply anyways.

Should you come here to live , the wife could apply for a LTVP for you whilst you get yourself settled in and working.

Better stick to Australia if you are making good money and happy there. Singapore is not a good place to come coz our cost of living way too high. Everything money money. If you don't have a deep pocket, Singapore is not the place. One citizen previously from Hong Kong lamented that Singapore is not the same like 15 years ago when he becomes citizen. Now he plans to migrate to Canada. Also if you have male kids, they are required to served the army 2 years at least even tho they are only PR. I am a Singapore Citizen. I am planning to get out too, maybe apply a green card to go China.

I think you getting out is a very good idea. Singapore doesn't need your kind of citizen here.

Good luck to you. Have you actually ever lived outside Sg, it doesn't sound like it. I suspect you will learn quickly that the grass is not always greener.

Thank you for your reply and speaking honest about your thoughts. I have not lived in Singapore before, only visited as a tourist. I have no kids now and probably have no plan to have one in the near future. We love Australia and the lifestyle, the people here. Job is good, nothing to complain about really. It is just that we still have ties in Singapore and for the industries we work in, Singapore is doing pretty well and we see ourselves working there. We hope we can get the PR sorted, if not a Long term visa will also do actually. =)

An additional note to your comment. The grass is definitely not always greener. Australian income tax is so freakin high. My holy moly. =(

hmm, not sure if you are referring to myself or the previous comment. I have not lived in Singapore before so I am not quite sure what kind of citizen is desired. We do see benefits working and living in Singapore that is why we are exploring possibilities to come back. However, ICA may view it in a different way cuz of our Australian residency. When it really comes to the day that we decided to move to SG, even without a PR, we should be able to sort something out. =)

Cars and accommodation are expensive, most everything else will be similar or cheaper than Oz, oh, except wine. Tax rates are much lower, as you've spotted. On the job front do your homework, some roles/professions pay much less in Asia. Working for a local company can be challenging, MNC may be the better way to go. Again that depends on your industry.

Don't you need things like copies of your SG tax assessments as proof of paying taxes and the like?

Is it possible the government would grant PR if you don't live here (baring the super rich).

Not really. They asked for proof of income and did not specify that I have to be employed in Singapore. I submitted the my payslips without raising any flags in the system at least. I did not provide Foreign ID as well because I don't have one and my application was submitted successfully. I guess I will have to find out when a decision has been made on my case. Btw, I am not super rich, especially on Singapore standards. Lol.
