Singapore Expats

Moving out in a few weeks and will need to get myself set up with a bank account asap. Any recommendations? Also any documentation needed. E.g. will not have a permanent place of residence before opening the account, but then won't be able to get a place to live until I have the cash to deposit via the bank.
What have your experiences been? Any hints?

All you need is a local address, your passport and some money preferably abit more than small change. Most banks will impose a minimum of $1,00 and above, plus a service charge if the balance is less than some magically high figure of say $5,000 or thereabouts
In otherwords, you must have some means or they would not want to know much about you.

You will need a employment pass or work permit or Singapore identification card to open a bank account. Holders of social visit pass cannot open an account.

I don't think so Pal. I opened a personal acount at S.C. in March and all I had was my 30 day tourist allowance. (They did have a look at my passport, for obvious reasons).

You can use the address in your country as permenant address and the Singapore address as mailing address. DBS bank is the biggest bank in Singapore and has most number of ATM machine.

Sounds good. and relatively easy then so can use my UK address so long as I have my employment pass ready in time. I'll be searching for apartments as soon as I get there but may need some temp accomodation, any advice?
