Singapore Expats

It is close to 3 years with my custom desktop PC viewtopic.php?f=20&t=116667 and planning to upgrade to a macbook pro this time.

New model of 13.3" out with 4 USB-C port, wanting to prepare the list of accessories to be acquired to use my dual external monitor, external hard drive (for backup), thumb drives and ethernet (I really love it over wifi as it always gives 800 Mbps over a 1 Gbps connection from starhub. Atleast for the sake of stability and big numbers in connection speed test) .

Instead of multiple connectors and converters, thought it be good have a hub/dock. I was wondering if there are any usb c docking station brands that work great for you. ? Did anybody have a good experience with a docking station that have worked for you with little to no issues?

Wow! How did you manage what with the Covid Mail snarl, to get this in only 9 days or less? I checked your link to Amazon and it told me 13 to 18 days to Singapore! I actually need to get something like this but for USB 3.0 interface with my Dell (not C enabled).

SMS, what specific ports you are looking for? For 3.0 plenty of standard hubs with ethernet or not on Amazon.sg with 2-3 delivery time. If something with more options (e.g. card reader, - you won't have hdmi/vga with usb 3.0) I would check Lazada with the precaution I mentioned in the webcam thread of abbbie. Lazada services were never high class (my opinion of course) but there are not too many venues these days to buy anything and some sellers over there are still doing good job.

My order was placed on 09-May, infact I was ready to wait as my new macbook would be delivered only by 18-25th of May. I thought it would take more than 2 weeks as you said.

To my surprise, the package got shipped on 11-May and delivered 3 days later.

Awesome! Okay, I see. It was sent via DHL! I've got crap sitting in San Francisco that arrived there on the 10th of April! and another at the beginning of May. Both are still sitting there in the Int'l departure USPS postal facility. Grrrrr! Neither are from Amazon though, through eBay but I don't think they used the eBay GSP program as that is via a courier as well - Pitney-Bowes.

x9200, not a real issue, but sitting here under CB, I realize how messy my desk is with this snakes nest of cables running willy-nilly all over the desk. Obviously 20TB of external HDDs is part of the problem as I'm already using a 4 port USB splitter.

Question, my 2 8TB Seagate HDD both have dual USB ports on the front, the 4TB one does not. Can I daisy-chain the three HDDs together using the ports on the two 8TB ones and then only plugging a single plus into the PC or Splitter? And still have full read/write capabilities with the PC and with each other?

Two popular options possible, the external Seagate box:
1) is just like another usb hub (so the daisy chain), or
2) is the host (OTG) and used to back up the guest devices you plug in to the Seagate HDD.
If you tell the model we can look it up.

One thing to consider: transfer going through the same hub between two external hdd (hooked up to this hub) will be lower than between the hdds on two different hubs (two separate usb sockets in the computer, assuming these are two different hubs too). But if the transfer rate is not important, all the hdds have their own power supply or the hubs are powered, then a single hub with a number of hdds should be fine.

Should be no problem to use the usb models as the hub.

Yeah, the two are the same model 8TB Seagates both have a pair of !USB ports on the front. The 5 Tb unit has no USB ports and is the oldest one. All have their own power. I shall give that a try and see if the transfer speed between the external discs is suitable. Thanks!

However, the two ports on the front of the Hubs are not 3.0 ports so only one port will have the transfer speeds available to 3.0 correct. Everything connected to the front ports will be limited by the speed of the legacy ports on the front of the HUB closest to the PC, correct?
