Singapore Expats

Asking for a friend who asked me for advice yesterday. He is 43 Australian with a Korean wife (39) with their first child on the way (sex unknown) and has lived in Singapore for 3 years and they would like to stay in Singapore until the child attends Uni, so for at least another 18 years. There is no ‘home’ to really go back to, his wife has never lived in Australia and they do not really want to bring up a mixed race child there (their words not mine so not worth discussing). They are ok for the child to serve NS if it’s a boy. He works in finance earning ~$500k a year. She was working in fashion but will focus on being a stay at home mum.

So the question is whether or not the family have any chance to get a PR with the ages and race and countries or origin. Any thoughts please?

At this point in time, I wouldn't hazard a guess as too many high fliers in Finance tend to be parachutes in and out of countries at the will of the employers. The economic beating that has been sustained thus far due to covid and the impending additional losses of businesses and unemployment of locals as well as EP/S/WP holders doesn't bode well and I personally think there will be addiional bloodletting before it over as I see Phase one possibly reverting back to CB if the people here get out of hand. Immigration numbers are going to go way, way down next year and considering the small number of opening for PRs under (Others) is normally around 500 estimated, it's going to be a lot smaller I fear, next year. However, we have seen those who buck the trend so if they are prepared for a rejection it won't send them into to much of a funk, Let the apply, knowing fully well it may take upward of 18 to 20 months to get either an approval or a rejection (but also we have see the outlier cases take only 5 or 6 months (but they are normally Malaysian Chinese who assimilate rather easily into the culture here.

I agree with the assessment. There is nothing 'special' regarding his circumstances versus the pack There are too many wanna be prs applying because it benefits them to be, and not think of how Singapore can benefit from them.

No chance. I expect a major tightening if EPs as well so help local employment.
