Hello,
Would like to have your expertise in evaluating our family chance of getting SC.
Husband (main applicant)
Age: 38
Race: Vietnamese
Education: Degree and PhD from NTU
Work: Engineering/Semicon
Salary: $120k+
PR since 2009 (working since 2007)
Wife
Age 35
Race: Vietnamese
Education: BA from EU Uni
Work: Finance
Salary: $90k+
PR since 2009 (working since 2007)
Married for 9 years, 2 sons were born here (6yo and 1yo on LTVP, going to local kindy). Their PR applications have been rejected thrice and once respectively
Application submitted online 34 months ago, doc submmision 28 months ago. I know of about 5-6 Vietnamese families who got approved over the last few years and all of their kids are girls(!). Im starting to think having boys is a disadvantage
Could we have some expert assessment of our chance pls? Thanks.

If kids PR is rejected, then SC chance may be low also.

Yes, we applied for our second son’s PR right after his birth, and only added him onto the SC application a bit later on. The doc submission was 28m ago, 34m was the online one.
2009 the number of PR granted already decreased sharply compared to previous years. Many of my friends applied at the same time as me and got rejected, although the number in 2009 is still higher than it is today for obvious reason. And for our ethinicity it was never easy to get PR anyway. Dont know about “shopping centre membership card”. Many locals also asked us why dont we just apply for SC after staying here for so long. Not that we didnt want to, we’ve seen many of our peers (same ethinicity - others), some with much better profiles get rejected 3-4 times. So we just wanted to wait a bit longer. Many locals think once you stay here more than 5 years getting citizenship is a piece of cake for everyone. We all know if we’re not Malaysian/Indonesian Chinese that aint the case

For the families we know, their kids’ PR applications all got rejected, coz we wanted to prepare for them to get into local school. The pain of being LTVP and wait for the phase 3 lucky draw is...well painful. But once they applied for SC, if persistent enough and a lotttt of luck, after several tries they got it. So my theory is they reject you so you have to think about SC route. Of course the other reason is they just reject due to...whatever rationale that is. The only interesting thing I observed was as I said, all the kids are girls

, thus starting to doubt the long-standing cannon fodder theory. A new trend? LOL

---> I don't think this theory is correct. I believe it is all about race, quota and priority. Amongst all applicants in "Others" category, I guess priority will be given citizenship by descent, PR spouse of SC, children who are adopted by SC ...

SC for Viet/Thai/other SEA (non MY, Indo chinese) seems difficult based on what I notice. Otherwise become more rojak than what it is now. So basically 3 groups is C/M/I/Others (rojak). no offence, i like rojak though.

Yes, I feel it’s beyond difficult because they look at each application case by case and evaluate everything on a holistic level, but not impossible

. So finger crossed. The waiting time is just crazy. The other successful VN applicants I know had to wait for avg of 18-20 months. For us, that mark was right at the start of covid peakLOL What are the chances. Anyway no news is...not negative news at this point

Not 100% accurate. It is not difficult if the applicants are spouse of SC or children adopted by SC, even though they are in Others category.
It is only difficult for pure “Others” family.
