A former friend of mine (who is in poor health and struggling with mental issues) trawled through my LI posts to find something offensive and reported it anonymously as a "bigoted comment". All he found was a LOL I posted on a humorous tasteless video but it was enough to get compliance acting. (It was very apparent my former friend did this as he was the previous visitor before a HR person checked my profile even though the complaint was anon and i don't get many visitors).

During the call with the compliance officer he offered some interesting advice. IF you're on LI as a "known person" (i.e. identifiable by name and employer) then comment on nothing and like no posts - EVEN IF your business development folks ask you to be active in LI.

Did you end up confronting the guy? That was a pretty nasty move on his part.

What the hell...? What's that guy's problem? Pretty harmless comment..why the need for compliance?

He's a very damaged individual and has a reputation for doing this to others (and causing real life changing damage in at least one case I know of).

Compliance officer basically said they have to investigate all complaints. Colleagues tell me this type of case is common and will be shelved unless they need a reason to fire me later.

Obviously I have blocked the guy on every platform and system I can but I expect more of this to come.

Good reminder PNGMK, thanks. Another consideration is when banks/other websites sometimes ask backup security questions such first job company city or year. A hacker can get such info from a public Linkedin profile. So I prefer to keep mine representative but not necessarily exact and choose alternative security questions as well

I have removed my employer names from my Linked In profile, ever since that Indian guy with 1.5M condo saga happened. Yes, to me, if you are not planning to switch jobs, there is more harm than gain by keeping an updated LI profile.

Yes, I think a lot of your brethren have had to do the same (certainly any in the banking industry).
I've done the same and put a short note explaining that this is to prevent "data mining and privacy issues". I've stripped out most of my past employers names and even stripped down the JD as well. It's just too hazardous and of course LI won't do anything to help you.

Wow, I’d be furious. What a spiteful jerk, I can’t imagine what he thought he would get out of doing something like that.

Well - my takeaway is to be far more careful about my data and privacy I guess. I figure he will be dead soon enough (he is broke so at some point will run into a medical issue and the hospitals in the PH won't do anything without prepayment so they will send him home to die).
