I’d been following trends from the days of getting PR to SC over the years. Contrary to what I’d read, my SC application was rejected. I was wondering was it because i applied it as a single?

Biodata : 35, male ethnic Chinese Malaysian, single
Length of stay : 15 years from student pass to PR. A PR for 9 years.
Work industry : Healthcare IT, were in both public and private healthcare.
Annual salary declared : a humble 80k
Exposure to Sg : Sat O levels, completed degree and post graduate locally in NUS. No stellar results at all. A committee member in a religious organisation near my place, if that count towards some brownie points. Was never in and out of the country, spent most of my time work and live here. No family ties here on this island.
SC Application timeline : applied July 2020, outcome in May 2021.

I think it's perhaps cos you're single? I understand those married to local or married couples/married couples with children seem to get approved quite commonly.

Does sound a bit strange. There must be something else causing the rejection. Being single has never been a problem with M'sian Chinese. Unless of course, you have a gender issue that possibly the government might be aware of? Not yet married at 35 might raise some flags, although I fail to see a problem with that.

Little surprised. How long are you working in SG? Entire working experience in SG? religious organization membership doesnt count towards brownie points.

10 years in sg. Never worked elsewhere out of Sg, after grad.

Cant see anything glaring causing problem from your profile. Try again after 2 years assuming it may be the quota, which is highly unlikely to be the case for you.

Nah, observer, they've been aware of this forum for the 16 years I've been here. In fact, the MOM used to have this site linked in two placed on the old MOM pages. I've actually been invited to meet with one of the directors of MOM a number of years ago (via this site through the admins) to have a 4 eyes discussion which in reality was 8 eyes and what was supposed to be 20 minutes at their old Havelock Road office actually took place at a restaurant in the Apollo centre next door and lasted 2.5 hours. The purpose was to ask me for my opinions and ideas on how to speed up the appeals processes there but ended up a rather wide ranging discussion. Another time I was invited to an online panel discussion on CNA about PR vrs locals and the problems that existed. Because of our no BS way of not blowing smoke, but telling it like it is, we actually do them a service, relieving some of the traffic they have to deal with. We actually have a good reputation built over many years.

This might be a typo in your profile but did you mean a levels instead of o? If you came here 15 years ago, that would mean you sat your o levels when you were 20? And you’ve been working for 10 years which means you spent 5 years going from o level to post grad? Doesn’t really add up

Sat for O’Levels examination only, I did not attend secondary school here. The school has tie up ( I presume ) with MOE Sg, though the school is not in Sg.

I came in 15 years ago on Student Pass as a undergrad.

I don’t know what ICA is looking for too. The letter reads “You may submit an application again if there is a change in your circumstances ( from the information you have provided in this application )”, which I believe a standard reply format. I am guessing they are interested to see some kind of holy matrimony on paper.

Their response does indicate they expect a greater contribution from you. They could keep just giving you PR extension and there would be no problem for them? What could they be missing out on?

Maybe you need to elevate your career aspirations or family planning?
