"sg residents" are inclusive of Citizens, PRs, Work Pass holder and LTVP/Dep pass holders

Yes you will need re-entry approval before you leave, the various requirements are available here in the travelling to Singapore section: https://safetravel.ica.gov.sg/

In the Departing Singapore section is the following: Travellers who are required to obtain entry approval before returning to Singapore (e.g. long term pass holders, work pass holders, student pass holders) are advised to secure an entry date before leaving Singapore, if they require certainty of a return date.

Just keep in mind the issue of caching Covid19 before you get back on a return flight. It appears some folks have taken months to get a clear OCR test post Covid19 recovery.

The protocol needs improvement.

I just have a healthy fear of being violated in my nasal passages… I’ve heard it is a traumatic experience, one that may leave mental scars, if not physical brain tissue damage (depending how deep they go).

It's not fun.

It's not pleasant but it's not remotely traumatic. It's helpful if the person conducting the swab test is experienced.

I had it done a few months ago. With my nose already itchy from the bug I had, it was unpleasant but hardly traumatic. Just caused me to tear up a little.

It is a bit unpleasant but not that bad. I've have 6-7 PCRs and another 5-6 ART tests for myself (losing count already), and you get used to it. I wouldn't limit my travels because of the tests.

But have to say that the PCRs I have done, it's been 50-50 whether it's been very very unpleasant vs. just a bit annoying. there is a difference between testers.
