Hi there,

Would like to seek your advice on the following situation please. Your advice will be greatly appreciated:
1) I’m a naturalized Singaporean citizen (previously PRC).
2) And I have been working and living in China since 2017.
3) I’m unmarried (and don’t intend to be married) and pregnant with my own child.
4) I intend to give birth in China given work and family reason.
5) and I don’t intend to have the father’s name on the birth certificate when the child is born.

Can I apply Singaporean citizenship for my child in this case?

I’ve read through the “child born overseas” section on ICA website. But my main concerns are:
1) my child will be illegitimate. And there is no father’s name on the birth certificate. Would it impact the chance of my child getting Singaporean Citizenship?
2) I’ve been living and working outside of Singapore since 2017. Not sure would this have any implication on the child’s citizenship application?

Thank you for your kind advice.

Easiest way to acquire SC status is to have the child be born in SG. You stated you plan to have the child born in China, but is giving birth in SG an option for you at all?

For the link:
https://www.ica.gov.sg/reside/citizenship/apply
note, how the body of the message is phrased. This in my opinion concerns a person who want to apply for her/him self, not necessarily a newly born child. There is also no mentioning the registration has to be done within 1 year.

The constitution was amended in 2004.

p.23
According to the explanatory statement of the Constitution of the Republic of Singapore (Amendment) Bill No. 12/2004, the Bill aims to allow Singapore citizenship to be acquired by children born overseas to citizen mothers. Article 122 was amended to enable persons born outside Singapore to acquire citizenship by descent if either of the person’s parents was a citizen by birth, registration or descent.

I would just call ICA and ask.
