NS vocations

While we'll be trying to get NS deferment (pending SC renunciation) for our son- if somewhere down the line, our son decides he wants to do NS- we were wondering how NS men are allocated to the different vocations listed on CMPB (Air Defence, Armour, Artillery, MP, SCDF, Police etc etc)?
I understand pre-enlistees can indicate interests and "Deployment is based on manpower and operational requirements, and the pre-enlistee’s medical fitness, cognitive attributes, predispositions, skills and interest".
But would you have a more practical perspective on this? E.g. If they are part of the local youth fire fighters (here in Switzerland), would they most likely end up in SCDF? Or are there certain fitness thresholds (which could be achieved through training) for certain roles? Or is the allocation rather arbitrary and chances of getting into your area of interest are rather slim? Would they take into account if someone stated that they dislike (the use of) weapons and therefore send him into other roles? Thanks

I can confirm that they don't shiv a git about conscientious objectors here. Oh, they will also, as noted, will put him wherever they feel the want or need him to be. My son had broken his elbow in a moshpit a year or two before he did his NS. Didn't keep him out of the military, but kept him out of the trenches. In fact after he finished his BMT he was assigned to an Army unit and 6 weeks later he was transferred to the SG Navy. Because of his elbow, he spent the next 20 months as a forklift operator supplying the naval vessels when they were in port. About the only way you son might get what he wants is if he qualifies for OCS and becomes an officer but then they will have their hooks into him for a longer period of time. If he has special qualifications or is extremely well versed in certain subjects there is always a possibility of requesting but no guarantees at all.

Depend on which unit.
Army very huge. range from field to sea to air to office to backend support.
During BMT, my boy show interest in 1 unit.
but didn't get thru interview.
Some of his course mate drop out of the course because of security clearance.
basically is like job interview.

Very little choice is given. My son was allowed to chose between being a fireman or EMT though but he'd wanted to be a Cop originally.
It does appear that kids with mixed parentage won't be in sensitive roles (tank commanders or mil Intel for example) where they could inflict sabotage.

The option to indicate your preferred vocation is relatively new - it's been given since 2016.
