Dear Friends,

I am a SG citizen currently working as a technology consultant. I am looking to venture into a financial planner (only in investment products not insurance) in a part time capacity or freelancing? No conflict of interest in my current organization as it’s completely different line of work.

I need your guidance and licensing process like clearing CMFAS examination on how to become a freelance or part-time financial planner to start with and eventually switch to full-time?

Your guidance will be very much appreciated!

Why wouldn't a SGC be able to be a PFA?

Yes you can be a part time Financial planner.
Since you are looking at focusing on investment, you would need to clear 6 SCI papers, M5,M9,M9A,HI ( To get registered with MAS ) and M8, M8A to advise on Unit Trusts. You can also take M6 and M6a to be able to advice on stocks and bonds.

Look for a company and agency that specialises in investment and not roadshows pushing savings plans.

Poh475,

So far, you are good to go. However, please be mindful of the red notice above where you type your messages. Advertising, solicitation, or asking people to contact you for further information is totally verboten on this board. You are welcome to give advice as long as you don't offer services. Just letting you know as I believe you have good information to give as long as it general insurance questions and such. You have not crossed any lines thus far, but your posts are geared to one topic only and that usually has a pong to it. I hate it when somebody crosses the line and I have to clean up behind them. At any rate, welcome to the board and I hope you become a regular contributor.
