Vietnam wife PR chance

Hi all, I just became a SC in Feb 2023. Used to be Chinese malaysian and had been PR from 2012-2023. Graduated from a local university. Yearly income based on Iras is 100k. Will be 35 this year.

Days after I got my SC, I helped my vietnamese wife apply PR under spouse sponsorship. My wife will be 24 this year. She is from hcmc and university graduate majoring in healthcare. We just got married in 2022 and she is on LTVP.

When I submitted PR application, she isn't employed yet. Now she just start work and our resale hdb flat application has been accepted.

No kid yet and only plan to have kids after our weddings in June 2023.

Any chance for her PR? Anyway can improve her chance to get PR?

You should have waited after 2 years of marriage before sponsoring her or else ICA sees it as a marriage of convenience.

And the fact you applied PR for her almost immediately after you got your SC raises eyebrows as well.

Don’t be surprised if it’s rejected this time. If rejected, you wait another 2 years before re-applying.

Nothing you can do to “improve” chances other than being PATIENT and waiting before applying too soon. Having baby sometimes helps but not guaranteed.

Since she’s working and you’re getting your HDB keys soon, feel free to update ICA for the current application.

In contrast to the thread-starter, I am older, earn lesser, have BTO instead of resale, have one 5 months baby girl, and have been married for two years. We are celebrating our anniversary this month. I submitted my application in Oct 2022, and it is still pending. My wife is on LTVP+ for 3 years until 2025 and has been working since LTVP approval.

Oh, you plan to have two weddings? One in Singapore and one in Vietnam?

An American friend of mine who lived in Singapore for several years met his Vietnamese bride here. They moved back to the US, but returned to Vietnam to give birth. He said it was the only way their kid would get Vietnamese citizenship… of course, he also saved over $10,000 in hospital costs.

My wife got her SC right after our wedding, and she applied for my PR immediately after completing her formalities. Our application was rejected 6 months after that. So, I say you don't need to worry too much about this application. If it got approved, good; if rejected, just wait and reapply. Not much you can do now.

Anw, we reapplied exactly 6 months after rejection and this time it was approved. We were married 1 year 6 months at the time of this application. One of the factor that might have helped is I have stayed in Singapore continuously for 13 years, and studied uni here. How long has your wife been staying here? Based on her age I guess max 2 years?

My wife has been in Singapore since July 2022. I have updated ICA about her employment and also our new residential address. It's been 4 months since I submitted the application and currently waiting.

update on my case. have waited for the PR application result since FEB 2023. My wife LTVP just got renewed to 2 years only and I assumed it's not LTVP+?

A positive news is that my wife should have been pregnant as it shows two lines on pregnancy test kit and Gynae visit has been scheduled. How could we present this news to ICA for her PR application in order to let them know my wife genuinely want a permanent residence in Singapore?

You can't base anything on a pregnancy test or confirmed pregnancy. It only counts after the birth of the child. The fact that she is possibly pregnant doesn't signify anything as to desire. It could have been accidental. Not trying to insinuate anything here, but you have to look at it from ICA's eyes. Every con or ruse has been used numerous times over the years to get residency here. While this is probably not the case here there is no way for ICA to know that and they will always err on the side of caution.

Your wife's singpass will reflect the word "plus" if she is given the status.

Even though I sent the gynae's confirmation that my wife is around 3 months pregnant, ICA still rejected my wife's PR application last year. :(

Despite sending my born baby status to them, I have already waited 10 months and the status is still pending. ](*,)

In addition, if your wife has not been given "plus" status, your hospital bill will be charged at the foreigner rate. In this case, it would be better if you had a plan B, such as being born in Vietnam.

First LTVP application for my husband: 1 year LTVP
First LTVP renewal: 1 year LTVP
Second LTVP renewal: 2 years LTVP, can’t get LTVP+ since we were only married for 2 years then.

I sponsored his PR a few months after the second LTVP renewal, he got it 9 months later. We don’t have any children.

Sorry if this sounds harsh but I can’t believe people are using pregnancy as some sort of special privilege to get PR.

Until there is a live birth, *touch wood* anything can happen during any trimester of pregnancy.

So… wait for the baby to be born and apply PR.

Subsidies for healthcare/housing are a bonus, not a right. I also wanted more subsidies for my HDB too but I had to play the system and tahan to be rewarded in the end.

Here is my Vietnamese wife status. As a Singaporean born and raised, I am a true blue citizen.

First LTVP application: 1 year LTVP
First LTVP renewal: 3 years LTVP plus

The first application was rejected after 7 months, the appeal was rejected after 3 months during trimester of pregnancy, and the current application is still pending after 10 months. The journey of a PR application is unknown. My baby is now 10 months old.

Even with LTVP+ subsidies, flying to Vietnam to give birth is not only going to be significantly less costly, but might afford the child some additional benefits. An American friend of mine married a Vietnamese lady and they travelled from the other side of the planet to give birth to their child in Vietnam — he told me it was mainly so the child would have a certain status/privileges in Vietnam in the future. Not sure about the details, but it must have been worth it in their case.

I am unable to give any input about your wife's PR application with regards to her pregnancy.

But regarding your wife's LTVP, if it does not show a "Plus" it probably means that it is just regular LTVP & like some mentioned, it will be hefty cost if you are determined to give birth in Singapore.

Alternatively, you can request an endorsed EDD letter during your first antenatal visit from your Gynae and attempt to renew your wife's LTVP, and hopefully attain a Long-Term Visit Pass-Plus/LTVP+

Fret not if you are wondering if ICA will question your LTVP renewal despite being just renewed (They will, but don't worry)

A brief profile, I got married with my wife March 2023 & got her LTVP (1-Year) approved on May 2023. Wife got pregnant & we got our EDD letter from our gynae during our first visit in mid-July 2023 & renewed her LTVP on the same day. ICA did clarify & request confirmation if I want to renew her LTVP despite just gotten approval in May (I replied yes of course). Fast forward 3 weeks & she got her LTVP+ approved with 3-Years validity till August 2026.

Disclaimer: I am not implementing that LTVP+ approval is 100% if your wife is pregnant (As it is ultimately up to ICA's discretion.)

But it's worth a shot If you are determined to give birth in Singapore. From what I understand LTVP+ gets to enjoy SPR medical subsidy, so it's definitely better if you are comparing it to regular LTVP(Foreigner rates)

Hope my input helps & I wish you success for your wife's PR approval.

Cheers
