Hi there, just applied Singapore citizenship on 01/03/2023.
Nationality : Malaysian
Race : Indian
Salary : 44000 p/a
Age: 30
Single
Working as electrical design cordinator in construction field.
Pr since April 2019 ( got approved with salary of 2300 per month)
Any takes on this profile?

Malaysians usually have a pretty good chance because of ease of integration in SG. However, as we know, ICA moves in mysterious ways so just wait and see and think positive thoughts.

For M’sian Chinese yes, it is easier but for M’sian other races, not sure. Have not encountered applicants from this category on the forum yet.

Yea. That’s why i decided to create a post. I rarely see Malaysian Malay or Indian taking up Singapore citizenship. Anyways I will update the outcome of my application once I get any update.

Well, as to that, at my recent citizenship ceremony, we noticed a rather surprising proportion of Indians. Given we live way up north next door to the causeway, good chance some at least were Malaysian. Pure speculation though.

Accents and diet tend to be a giveaway. Indians from India tend not to eat much local food.

Couldn't tell.. our makan was skimpy, only snacks like kacang puteh. I didn't stick around long as I was too hungry.

Very rarely do Malaysian Indians become SC. I can't say I've ever met any. What I do see is Malaysian Indians using Singapore employment or relationships (found here) as a stepping stone to migrate onto greener pastures. I dated a Tamil Malaysin girl in the 80s who married a Dutchman and moves there, a Malaysian Indian girl who married a Canadian and I've currently a Malaysian Indian colleague who is planning to migrate somewhere as soon as she and her husband have enough experience in their good jobs here.
I suspect there is so little data on this that no one has an answer for the OP. Unfortunately I suspect he will get put in the Indian bucket with all of the subconns which is not really fair to my mind as culturally he will be much closer to Singaporeans than a subconn Indian.

Understand and thanks for the explanation. I felt quite lucky with my PR approval back in 2019 with lesser salary. I was thinking the same back then regarding quota. That’s the only thing giving me hope that Malaysian Indians might not put into same bucket as South asians. I might be wrong. I will update as soon I get the result, which I believe won’t be that fast.

I believe this is true, at work most of my colleagues walk out during lunchtime to takeaway local food. My Indian colleagues always bring food from home in Tiffin carriers.

I'd like to think that Malaysian Indians would still be classified the same way any other Malaysians would. Culturally/socially, Malaysians share many similarities with us, regardless of race.

I see, that's an acceptable amount of time to wait before applying for SC. Sometimes it's hard to remember that 2017 was 6 years ago!
