sailing in Singapore

Hi all,
I'm looking for a berth on a boat that does some sort of regular competitive sailing. I come from Sydney and really miss going around the cans in the harbour on a Saturday afternoon. I am aware there is not quite the same scene here, but still would like to go out racing on a boat.
I've asked at a couple of yacht clubs - but I've been astonished to learn that they want $2-3k(pa!) for me to crew on a boat - though in retrospect I may have suffered some communication problems.
Any ideas, contacts would be welcome.

how did you go mrdodge...I am a kiwi looking to relocate from Auckland in the near future and one of the first things I will be doing is trying to sort out a reg crew spot - im a novice with 1 seasons young 88's racing and a trans-tasman delivery under my belt but love it...any tips that you have discovered to get into the scene would be greatly appreciated

To be honest, I have'nt really looked into it much since then.
Sailing is not that fabulous here anyway - there is very little wind. But I've been promising to spend an afternoon going around the clubs to try again.
(oh, and they apparently want you to do some sort of course, too. bloody hell).
Let me know when you land, we can split the work maybe?

Just finished a course at Raffles Marina whih was really good and am looking for some rides - Maybe just for fun races for now as I am still learning.
So anyone with a spare berth for a newbiw give me a shout.

We could always go 3rds in a boat and then we could do as much sailing as we wanted?

Just go to Changi or Raffles marina and put your name on the list. Doesn't cost anything, and anyone asking for money is dodgy.
Or go to BQ or Harrys bars along boat quay and you'll find the sailing crews.
