Came here in late 90s as a baby
PR since 2004
Full education from nursery/PAP Kindergarten to JC in SG, Uni in Australia (Grad Dec 2020)
BComm and MPA
Working here since Jan 2021 in Financial Services. Current salary around 67k.

This is my second time applying.

Both parents have become SC, only I got rejected first when I applied with them (cos I was studying overseas). The first time was a 4 year wait. Not keen on the idea of waiting another 4 years just for a rejection again. Remember actually crying the first time I got the rejection :/

As you are now a fully employed member of the sandwich class and no longer a student and are now employed for 2.5 years I'd say give it another go. I think schooling outside of Singapore may have been the straw that broke the camels back the first time.

I'm not sure why it should be. The majority of my dorm mates were Singaporeans, they were virtually impossible to avoid.

The longer this takes, the more I feel like I'm not meant to be here. It feels like an insult to have other colleagues who've spent a fraction of years here get it so easily while I've been here nearing three decades from young. My birth country means nothing to me and I don't know any other place as home The first time I got rejected I sobbed as if I got dumped, and I've never actually gotten that upset before lol

Indian passport but not Indian race maybe. There was one other member on this forum who is Chinese race with Indian passport.

Yes possible, and it did cross my mind, but other than that, I can't think of any ethnicity in the subcontinent that would be classified as anything other than Indian in the Singapore classification system.

It's not really helpful to compare to other people. There will be factors you aren't aware of.

ICA are probably wanting to see that you are serious about settling in SG and not just wanting the passport to make it easier to run road to Oz or elsewhere.

Actually South Asia includes a lot other countries like Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan

Actually South Asia includes a lot other countries like Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan

There are different ways to categorize people from the subcontinent I suppose. One is based on their nationality, the other is based on their ethnicity. The latter is usually how the Singapore gahmen would probably map people to their own classification system.

I usually come across Sri Lankans who identify as either Sri Lankan Tamil or just Sri Lankan. If they've been around in Singapore for a few generations, they identify as Singapore Indians.

Yes, South Asia include many countries leaving India behind as it is geographically big. Country like Bhutan, Nepal are also South Asian countries.

In Singapore, there exists a significant Nepalese community primarily composed of Gurkhas recruited from Nepal, along with their families.
