Hi I'm considering applying for PR and would like to get some insight from everyone:

30 y/o female
Chinese ethnicity (Taiwanese)
US citizen
received my first bachelor's degree from top 20 US universities
moved to Singapore in 2017 (6 years)
worked for 2 years from 2017-2019 (EP)
attended SMU for law degree from 2019-2022 (student pass)
currently working at one of the biggest Singapore law firms (2022-now on EP)
current salary: $100k

I've never applied for PR before. Would be grateful for any insight on whether I should wait a few more years to apply to have more working experience first or whether my chances are good enough now.

There is also a chance I get a job offer from a US law firm located in Singapore within the next few months. Should I wait to apply after I've begun my new role?

Best to apply after 2 continuous income tax assessments. If rejected, apply after 2 years of marriage with citizen spouse sponsoring you.

I concur with MOCHS, but at the same time, I think with your pedigree, I'd apply now and take a chance. You tick all the boxes, especially with ethnicity, local law degree and a good founding with a high end law firm, I believe you have enough to jump the gun a bit. (It's worth the gamble in my estimation). Good luck if you decide to try it.

Yeah, I was gonna say that OP can clearly afford the application fee and apply if she doesn’t wanna wait but should not be surprised if there’s a rejection.

My fiance and I are planning on getting married sometime this year. Would it help my chances of getting a PR if we signed the marriage certificate earlier so that I can update the PR application accordingly? Our wedding date is likely going to be in December (it's difficult to book a venue within a year), but we can do the solemnization earlier.

Grateful for your thoughts!

I know I need to be patient and I'm not trying to rush anything, but just wanted to know if it would help my chances if I updated the application with a marriage certificate.

It depends on what is your spouse's nationality and ethnicity. If he is not local your pr chances may be affected. In another perspective, your marriage would at least let them know you are trying to settle down. Based on what you wrote before, i believe you applied in Nov 23 under PTS scheme? If it is so and if your spouse is not local, your pr application may not be favourable, but not impossible. After marriage you can update ica regarding your marriage, but you cant include your spouse in an already existing pr application (if i am not wrong). May be others can clarify this statement.

Thanks for your insights. My husband is local Chinese Singaporean. He’s 36 this year, born and raised in Singapore. I’m not applying under the spouse sponsored scheme so just want to know if it helps to update the marriage status.

Why wouldn't you have him sponsor you?

I applied for PR back in November 2023 before we decided to get married in 2024. Originally we were thinking of getting married in 2025, but schedule didn’t work out.

No. It might treat as marriage of convenience.

Only helps if your spouse was the one that sponsored your PR application.

If not, doesn’t hurt to update ICA about the change in marital status.

OP has already entered a risky ground. For example, what if her PR application gets rejected in June and the ROM happens in July? Getting married just after a rejection might also look like a marriage of convenience...
