Consequences of renouncing citizenship for children?

Hi all
Our entire family has migrated to australia almost 10 years ago. My 9 year old son has dual citizenship by descent (aus and singapore).
We don't see ourselves moving back to Singapore and are considering renouncing his singaporean citizenshipship in a few years time, but am wondering what kind of long term consequences doing this before NS this may have (assuming we do it properly to avoid liability)? Even if he did do NS we would probably still renounce at 21 as our lives are pretty rooted in Australia for the foreseeable future.
I know reapplying for citizenship or PR would be close to impossible, but would it also exclude him from even a work visa? Wonder if anyone has experience in this?

If done properly, by the numbers, it shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks - also wondering if there's any benefit to doing NS after (vs before) renouncing (assuming "done by the numbers")? It sounds like people who do renounce after NS still get "blacklisted" from applying for work visas etc?

If done properly the door to SC or work permits is not closed for your children, it's just there is no advantage given as a former citizen unlike in some countries such as India with its OiC program.

Interesting that youention the pathway to SC is still open... I've always heard stories about people being blacklisted for giving up citizenship/PR, how does that work ?

Normally it's because the immigration protocol has not been followed. We have had former PR and SC report here that they have obtained EPs.

My BIL was able to get an EP here have after giving up PR as a teen. In his case he never enjoyed any benefits of PR and never even lived in Singapore prior to giving it up, so not sure if that made a difference. After being on an EP for a few years (early to mid-2000’s) he eventually left Singapore and since then he has only come back as a tourist.

If you genuinely don’t see any of the family coming back to Singapore, I don’t see any downside or consequences for renouncing. Can always come for holiday on tourist visa. Good luck
