Singapore Expats

Hi everyone,
I`m a 24 year old Brit who graduated from university last year. I am in the process of applying for a working holiday visa with a hope it can lead to a opening doors for a longer working stay in Singapore. Would anyone know any companies, schools hotels etc. who offer employment for people on a holiday visa? Any suggestions would be more than welcome

I don't think is legal for any company to offer you any employment while on holiday visa. Your best bet will be to go for interviews while in Singapore and hopefully get selected and thereafter get your work visa.

As SMS pointed out, you can indeed apply for a holiday work pass, but for the life of me, I can't figure out why Singapore continues to offer this anachronistic program. It's sort of like the appendix in Singapore's work pass digestive system.

I judge that you're going to have a very tough time finding a job. It's already a serious, near impossibility, pain in the ass for a foreigner to come in and find a job, and even though you have this six month pass, it's really sort of a liability.

It's six months and companies don't want the hassle of going through all the hiring and orientation expense just to see you walk out the door when your pass expires. At one time, you might have been able to transition into a real live employment pass but the Singapore government has raised the salary requirements, experience levels, and credentials so much over the last decade that you simply won't qualify for an EP unless you are some kind of super wonder boy.

And you still have all the other problems associated with hiring a foreigner. No network. Lack of understanding working in the Asian culture.

OTOH, it is a unique 6 month opportunity to live in Singapore. You need to be able to demonstrate the financial resources to live in Singapore for 6 months before you get the pass, so you might consider a trip, even without a job, so that you could investigate other countries... Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam. So you could come without a job in hand.

Or, you might try getting a job in your home country with an MNC that has offices in Singapore. You might be able to wheedle your way into an internship in Singapore if you were willing to pay your way.

You graduated last year, you wont have enough experience to be paid the very minimum for an SP and the Employment pass require a salary of $5600 a month Singapore- this is usually for someone with few years of experience even for a fresh Singaporean graduate out of their local university.

Except, he's not applying for an S Pass or EP, and there are no minimum salary requirements. He does have to demonstrate that he has the financial resources to live in Singapore for six months.
