Hardly see anyone comparing the two cruises, but which is your favourite and why..?

I have tried Royal Caribbean Cruises but was a little disappointing as I saw the advertisement claiming water slides and bumper cars to only know the one I boarded didn't have it..rather misleading.

Not sure about Genting Dreams yet to try..any feedback?

Not a fan of the regional cruise lines. Royal Caribbean was great fun for our family when our daughter was younger as she's an only child and they have a great kids club. Now that she's older we go for Carnival and Norwegian where possible. Great food and tends to be a little cheaper.

Genting is said to be more of an ah beng / ah lian / ah pek type of crowd, focus is more on gambling.

Agree. Feels a lot less classy, for lack of a better word.

Agree....I know they like the casino in Star Cruises (before). And a lot of elderly too..

If you have kids, disney cruise is coming next year! Thats what im looking forward to. Am sure there will be a premium for it..

And i read some comments Disney cruise passenger number is like 10,000? Is it true? It'll be very crowded..

Royal Caribbean is great though a lot will depend on the ship you're on.

Carnival is one I would actually stay away from, albeit it's their cruises in North America that you have to be most worried about (booze cruises).

Norwegian, on the other hand, has been a very pleasant surprise. The food is much better than on Royal Caribbean and there's something for everyone, from families to older people. I enjoyed their entertainment too (though Royal Caribbean is quite good in this aspect as well).

The main difference right now is that Royal Caribbean charge you and arm and a leg for their unlimited drinks package, whereas Norwegian often has these "Free at sea" promos that include a drinks package and a handful of vouchers to speciality restaurants that are normally payable (like teppanyaki).

For good prices look for relocation cruises that don't return to your original port (embark in Singapore and disembark in Sydney for instance, or the other way around). You will have to travel by air one-way but the experience is better (there's only so far a cruise ship can go if it needs to head back to the same port) and you get to stay in another country to make it an extended holiday.

I had a similar experience with Royal Caribbean – felt the ads promised more than what was actually on board.Genting Dream, on the other hand, was more satifying for me.It has waterslide, a good variety of activitie, and better service.The vibe is more relaxed too, especially for families.

The Genting seems like a floating casino - there's no way I would choose their boat over any other tried & tested cruise operator like Royal Caribbean or Princess Cruises.

As others have mentioned Genting is basically a floating casino - more of your old school star cruise style.

The international lines like RCL and NCL are much more suited to families.

With respect to the comments about the misleading adverts, I think there may be some truth, but to be fair some of their ships do have these facilities. It's not like Qatar airways that might sell you a Q Suite but actually you end up with their older business class. In this case, you can search for the ship on line and see what facilities will be available.

By far. Princess is also a decent operator for families.

I know many people think of cruising as a weekly vacation where you sail out and then come back to the same port a week later, but cruising is also a great way of getting somewhere 1-way. So for instance instead of flying to Australia both ways you can cruise in one direction and then catch a cheap Scoot flight on the way back.
