Hi,
Is there anyone who left Singapore and had to pay exit tax on the unvested RSUs due to deemed exercise rule? How did you apply for refund? Is there any guide?

I don’t have any personal experience with this, but I know others that have experienced this issue. I don’t believe it is an exit tax per se, but a withholding by your employer on behalf of IRAS to ensure taxes you owe get paid, and you get a refund on the difference. This is true for any income tax due the IRAS upon repatriation AFAIK.

Hi malcontent,
How can I determine if I'm eligible for a tax refund in this situation?

I’d imagine you’d log on to the IRAS and check, or if not, contact them by email or phone — in my experience, they are prompt and eager to please (even if not always the most knowledgeable).
