My NR husband and I have just gotten married after being together for more than 2 years. We have received LLE from applying PMLA. He’s an ex WP holder in SG but cancelled it after just 2 months plus. He was working in Malaysia (not his home country) for the past few years. He went back to Msia after cancelling WP.

Currently we are trying to apply for LTVP but it requires his past 3 years of income tax assessment/receipts but we do not have this. It is marked as a compulsory document to submit. His employer did not register for an income tax account for him, nor did they inform him to do anything about it. So this tax matter just didn’t come to mind. He doesn’t have a bank account and all salaries are paid in cash.

What should we do? Or how to phrase in an explanatory letter to upload in that section so that it doesn’t come across as intentional tax evading? I’m a very law-abiding citizen with a clean record and would definitely ensure he will be in SG too. But all these that happened in the past is not within my control.

Sad to say, but it is exactly what he was doing. Intentional Tax Evading. He knew what is was doing was illegal. Now it's got him by the short hairs as the moment you bring up an explanation to ICA they are going to know that if the price is right, he'll do something illegal here as well. I'd say the jigs up. You married him, knowing that he was flying under the wire. You become as accessory after the fact. I wouldn't bet a wooden nickel on him being successful (but I've been wrong before so there is still hope. I guess.)

It didn’t occur to him as nobody mentioned it to him, not even the employer. The government agency did not send any letters or documents to inform him what needs to be done too. I didn’t know too, just found out about it.

Did he earn less than $20K a year or something? Even if those who earn less than $20K no need to pay taxes, it’s still recommend to file them.

Why don't you put in the income tax documents if the country he was working in then? Or is that also unavailable?
