My friend and I are planning to travel to Paris and Nice next month. I'll be arriving a couple of days earlier and will be alone in Paris. Anyone care to advise a safe area for ladies to stay?

Please also let me know what not to miss in both cities. Thanks

When in Paris don't miss the Louvre, Sacre Coeur, Champs Elyssee and the Arc de Triomphe. Check out the Eiffel tower at night that's superb. Check out the Artists square in Montmartre it's quality. I've only ever stayed in the outskirts of Paris so can't really advise of any city centre hotels sorry.

In Nice the main strip along the beach is cool, but you can head off into the old town which is nice and also some of the back streets can be interesting. From Nice you can also get to Monte Carlo, Cannes and St Tropez reasonably easily via train. Have fun!

I went to Nice for my honeymoon - it's a lovely place. So here's a quick summary...

The old town (Vielle Nice) is lovely - there's a great chocolatiere there as well which makes the most delicious chocolates; there's also some local food places, which have your standard nicoise salad with anchovies etc, but also some other delicacies too.

Check out the Nice Opera whilst you're there - you can get cheap seats right up in the rafters for about 7 Euro, which is a great experience, even if you can't understand the opera itself.

Lots of shops too if you like that sort of thing. Plus lots of places to eat at reasonable prices - the wine is great, and really cheap for very drinkable wine.

Other places include seeing the old cemetaries with amazingly ornate and large graves, and also the harbour side as well if you want to go out somewhere different, also the war memorial too. There's the Hotel Negresco which is a very art-deco style hotel that's worth checking out also.

Nice is fairly safe to stay in the city centre - either along the beach. There are lots of cheaper hotels towards the railway station, but it's still safe enough as long as you don't wander about on your own I'm sure. We stayed at the Comfort Hotel which to be honest was a bit noisy from the road, and then they were replastering the other side when we changed rooms.

Then as Fohls said, make sure you catch the train up and down the coast. You're a cheap 30 minute train ride from lots of little bays, and also Cannes (which has imported sand on its beaches, but beware that it only has one public beach, every other beach is private). Monaco (and Monte Carlo) is a must see, only 30 minutes on the train from Nice - from the old town on top of the hill near the palace, and the cathedral, and then I enjoyed seeing where the Grand Prix goes too, plus of course the casino too and its gardens - scene of many many films. You can also get the train a little further, and go into Italy - only one hour from Nice, to a small coastal town called Ventimiglia, which has a charming old town, but is quite quiet (well it was when we went on a Saturday), but if you want real Italian pasta, then you've got to go to Italy.

I'm from PAris. It's a safe city except maybe the 18, 19 and 20eme arrondissment. The center of Paris is safe, no worries. Enjoy your time, go to St Germain des pres, relax, have a cafe en terasse.
