Singapore Expats

Hi,

Just relocated to Singapore, can anyone tell me how to setup a webcam with internet call so that I can keep contact with my family and friends in my homeland?

Please let me know what software you use and their effect.

u can try msn messenger.

if u have a headset, u can use voice and video. it has video conference which is almost as good as real time. however, both parties will have to install msn messenger. considering that its free, its pretty good.

or, u could try yahoo messenger frm yahoo.com. pic quality is better here but not real time.

MSN and Yahoo Messengers are great for Webcamming. I use it all the time. Complement it with audio on Skype. The quality of audio conversations on Skype is as good as telephone, certainly better than MSN or Yahoo. With this combination, its almost like doing live video conferencing.

Have you tried the new Beta version of Yahoo Messenger ? It has vastly improved audio capability - clarity as good as Skype - making it the best single solution. It also have 3 or more way conferencing - so you can see and hear each other at the same time. AN absolutely terrific solution. Crashes sometimes, but overall, quite a massive improvement.

Starhub overcharging me $30 for a cable tv modem which I returned but not found in their records. It has been 2 years since we have corresponded and they are still reluctant to return the $30 deposit to me.
I have subscribed their mobile phone and again they overcharged me and you have to leave it to them to return you or not !!

I am now working in oversea and when I am back to Singapore, I manually roam it to M1 or Singnet and BYPASS Starhub so that they will get "$0" from me for the rest of my working life for many years !! They will loose more than the $30 which they owe me ! You can help me too !!

Another thing I donot understand why there is ONLY 1 service in Singapore for cable, ONLY Starhub and no one else?? I thought monopolise business is not happening in developed or developing countries unless Singapore is not ??

Hi, this is fascinating, but absolutely NOTHING to do with Webcams! Start a new post.

Yahoo is soooo much better than msn messenger as it uses a different type of software. You can just about get the voice working too.
Or you could always try getting a router from your broadband that hooks into a phone as well. Bit like skype but better cos you have a propoer phone and it doesn't go through your laptop/computer. Take a look at Sipgate.

I use skype for the talking and messenger 7 for the webcam, works perfect, crystal clear,, really impressed for the last 8 months

for using webcam, yahoo is better than msn only in terms of picture quality. i prefer the real time video conferencing of msn 7 over yahoo. barely any lag. skype is excellent for voice.

so far, yahoo beta has been a pain, voice quality is good, but deteriorates pretty quick. only fun thing i see is that u can leave a voice mail instead of regular offlines. thats pretty cool.
