Singapore Expats

We've had cars while living in the U.S, Australia and here. But why is it that people here have a blatant disregard for other people's cars. Our car has had it's fair share of dents, scratches and scuffs over the past 2 years here. Lorry drivers and other car owners violently open their car doors leaving dents and scratches that are an absolute eye sore...and not to mention the heartache! We finally decided to get it resprayed last weekend, only to find someone had deliberately left a large scratch on the paint work the VERY next morning! Yet, for all the years we've owned cars in U.S and Australia, they were left unscathed.

I don't think it's a space issue either, because I take all precaution not to damage other people's cars while getting in and out of mine. It's not difficult to do.

I think it's a total lack of respect that people have as well as envy. Where is the conscience?? This was what it was like in Malaysia 20 years back. We may be living in a first world country...however, the behaviour is anything but.

Funny that. You might be right afterall! My sister who is in Perth bought a car last week. Last night a brick got thrown through the windscreen. That beats my incidences hands down!

We're from Canada - and just to let you know - in that first world country, someone broke and stole the dinner plate size Mercedes logo from our Merc ML 320 while it was parked in the affluent, middle class neighbourhood supermarket parking lot. How's that for North American courtesy and respect for other people's property?

The difference is, that in other countries, they vandalize your car for different reasons:
1) Racism
2) Plain old theft

In Singapore, by and large, MANY of the vandalism incidents involve a good ole dose of Singaporean 'envy' and 'spite'. Lots of people do it; from old ladies to bank managers. It's just simple 'small mindedness', no ifs ands or buts about it.

Wouldn't rule out the space factor. Take a look and compare the size of the parking lots in Singapore and America or Australia. The number of vans and lorries that park in shopping centers and residential HDB lots are vast.

I don't deny some people do it on purpose, but some of them are just plain careless, some with less common sense. But its unfair to pinpoint a certain group of people.

Shit happens everywhere. There are inconsiderate idiots everywhere you go. Oh well............................................

My new car got key run within two days after parking in HDB lot, this is a sadist phenomenon in singapore.

I don't even know anybody in this neighbourhood and not even made any eye contact (that's another phenomenon). So don't compare it with other countries and normalise this "SADIST" mentality of singaporeans.
