Technical Crew Appointments

CADET PILOT (SINGAPORE CITIZENS, SINGAPORE PERMANENT RESIDENTS OR MALAYSIAN CITIZENS)


a) minimum 2 'A's and 2 'O's, including General Paper, in the GCE 'A' Level Examination (or its equivalent); or
b) minimum 2 Principal Passes (excluding the languages; Mathematics and Science subjects preferred) and 2 Subsidiary Passes in the STPM (or its equivalent); or
c) Polytechnic diploma; or
d) University degree
At least 1.65m in height

Medically fit with visual acuity of at least 6/60 without optical aids, correctable to 6/6

Preference will be given to candidates with higher qualifications and some years of working experience

Training
---------
You will spend 15 to 17 months on training to acquire an Airline Transport Pilot’s Licence (ATPL) with Instrument Rating (IR) at Pilot Training Schools in Singapore and overseas. Full board and lodging will be provided. Upon obtaining the flying licence, you will undergo further training of 1 to 2 years to become a First Officer.

Remuneration and Service Benefits
----------------------------------------
A monthly allowance will be provided during training. On appointment as a First Officer, you will be paid a basic salary and various allowances. Fringe benefits including medical & dental treatment and discounted travel will also be offered.

Bond
------
Successful candidates will be required to serve the employer company for the duration of the training and for a period of 5 to 7 years from the date of appointment as First Officer.

What is this occupation about?

Pilots are highly trained and skilled professionals who fly passenger or cargo planes. Pilots communicate with Air Traffic Controllers for directions while flying, with regard to weather conditions and destinations. Close co-ordination between the pilot and co-pilot is crucial especially during take-off and landing.

What are the personal qualities needed?

- ability to remain calm in emergencies

What kind of income or benefits can you expect?

During training, the remuneration will range from $500 to $2,200 per month. On appointment as First Officer, the commencing salary will range from $3,400 to $4,425 per month.

Inclusive of salary and allowances, you can earn from $5,000 to $7,300 per month.

Does a Female get a chance to be a pilot?

Definitely.
There are female pilots flying for SilkAir and SIA.

There are even more in Cathay Pacific.

Yes definitely a female has the chance to be a pilot. It's not in any way a sexist job. Last 2 years when I underwent the Outward Bound Singapore 21 Days course, my batch met another batch of the same course who were from Singapore Flying College. They were about to finish the 21 days course when we started. Out of their group of 16, one of them is indeed a female. But I'm not sure if SIA has female Captains or First Officers coz I've never seen one at work. But the female cadet pilots might be posted to SilkAir or SIA Cargo? I'm not sure about that.

There is no female pilots flying for SIA but there are a few female pilots in Silkair.

Indian lady.

FYI: Jest Star Asia has the first Singaporean Woman Captain. They have several lady pilots, but she was the first lady to be upgraded.

HI. U are right about JSA having the first SINGAPOREAN female pilot,she was from MI. BUT the FIRST FEMALE CAPTAIN was in Valuair, tho not singaporean.
SQ has no female pilot till now.

SIA does not employ female pilots. Only silkair does, and very rarely at that. Paige knows what she's talking about.
