Very nice area, midst of Chinatown. But along Tanjong Pagar road isn't so much accomodation available. Having said that, I know of some very nicely renovated Chinese shophouses, but they start from 3000 Sing per mnth.

It is also close to orchard area, thus expensive. If you would be ok with a bit more towards bukit merah or tiong bahru, you will have more options for your budget, there's more condo's around there. Or you could opt for the Caribbean, a newly built luxurious condo right at the harbourfornt, which is doable with bus or mrt (10 min) to tanjong pagar.

There's a condo at Club Street, within 750 m of the Tanjong Pagar MRT station. You can probably get a small two-bedroom unit within your budget.

A friend of mine used to live at Craig Place on Craig Rd - a 5min walk to the MRT station. She was paying something like $1800 for a small 2 bedroom flat.

Yes, eating is one of Singaporeans favourite pastime. Many locals are willing to wait up for hours to eat their favourite dishes at their favourite restaurant/food stalls. Most Singaporeans would not mind less hygienic environment if the food there is great. Taste is their main consideration. This is not to say that eating is a filthy business in Singapore.

Backpackers will be delighted with the variety of food and the price here (Food around the region is cheaper though). There are many eating places to choose from (Singaporeans love good food). From expensive restaurants to coffeshops hawker center that scatters everywhere in the country. The cheap places to eat are food courts, coffee shops (kopitiam) and hawker center. Food court are air- conditioned food courts which is usually located at shopping centre that sells a variety of food. There's no need for reservations (free sitting). Each food court will have at least 10 stalls selling food & drinks. (Australians will find the similarity with this concept)

Hi Lilian, we are living in Tanjong Pagar Plaza on Tanjong Pagar road. this is a socalled HDB flat which people rent out at the moment. Going rates are 2300-2500 Singapore dollar. It is extremely convienient right above all sorts of shops and restaurants and opposit to a (small) shopping mall. The flats here are about 650 square feet. We probably will move out by mid june so if you like this sort of flats maybe we can introduce you to the landlord... On the other hand Singapore is such a small place and for a bit more money yoy can get a bigger and more luxury flat within half an hour travel.
