Singapore Expats

Hi all,

we are moving from Germany to Singapore in August and we have a 19 month old daughter. In Germany, there is a time-table given to parents for the check-ups (in addition to the immunisation pass) which the child should undergo. The health record book is in german (the immunisation pass contains english language - it is an international pass).

I have thus 2 questions :
1. Are there similar health checks timetable for children in Singapore prescribing periods during which we should bring the child to the pediatrician for an overall check on child's development?

2. Has anyone had difficulties presenting a foreign language health record book to for instance the child-care centre? Our daughter is to join a child-care centre in Singapore and one of the documents to be brought would be a copy of the health record book. But it would be in German - although it is clear that nothing is wrong with the child. And one could see from the record book that the child has been to regular prescribed check ups.

I would be very grateful for any advice/opinion/experience out there!

I don't really know cos I dun have any kids but my experience in general was that if the document is not in English or Chinese here then they want it translated. It happened to me before that I had an official translation from the city council in Germany and they didn't accept it (it was my high school degree I guess). In the end they only accepted a translation from the German embassy which was bloody expensive.

So I recommend to try getting some translation under any circumstance and just hand that over with the original document to avoid any questions right from the beginning.

For medical childcare I wouldn't worry. However there are some extra imunisations children should have here different to Germany. But as said before, as I don't have kids I am not sure about that.

we are moving to Singapore end of August with our 12 months old son as well.

I am quite sure that there are regular medical check ups like those in Germany. As far as I know you will get a health record book there as well. I will contact a doctor in Singapore right after we arrive esp. as my son needs his next immunisation already in September.

I would recommend to have the health record book translated to avoid any problems with the child care centre.
